  1. I sure as s*** can count him.
  2. Because it's the easiest for us as Red Sox fans to conceptualize.
  3. This is ********. If you look at the 4 Red Sox WS champs, they all had really great starting rotations that stayed relatively healthy except for miscellaneous baby attacks.
  4. Jordan Montgomery: 11 G 2.79 ERA 1.094 WHIP 2.90 ERA in the playoffs Red Sox perennial 1b Nasty Nate was also damn electric in the playoffs. Probably could consider the Rangers having two aces.
  5. They could take baby steps as a team, put a better product on the field and still wind up with a worse record IMO.
  6. Volques and Ventura both had the same fWAR that year as BOS Wade Miley: 2.7. Young, Duffy, Volques, Guthrie all had shine at one point in their career, but they never were TOTR guys.
  7. Nate was 4th in CY voting. Led the league in FIP. He was really f***ing good that year.
  8. They can get into the postseason, but they'd have no shot. None. Pitching wins in the postseason. It's a big reason they got their last 4 titles. When they've had lesser rotations, they haven't made a dent in the postseason. The only team to win the World Series in the past 30 years without an ace was the Kansas City Royals in 2015 (3rd ranked pen in '15, 1st ranked defense).
  9. Without the guy at the top, what's the point in getting to the playoffs? You're dead meat!
  10. Wooly Bully indeed.
  11. It works IF you have the right reliever and IF the starter is ok with his routine being changed. Baseball players are creatures of habit. See Brayan Bello pitching well at night, but horribly during the day.
  12. $.49 Ross sales?
  13. The Building 19 3/4 of baseball teams.
  14. Grunge can't be dead. Melvins are still putting out albums.
  15. Don't deal any prospects. Take best player available. Take all SS's because you can "just move them wherever." No risky picks or signings. Hoard like TLC is going to be coming over after the year.
  16. Some choice quotes from Bloom prior to the start of 2020: Chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom spoke honestly about the state of the Red Sox’s starting rotation. “It’s definitely more unsettled than I think you would want, in a vacuum,” Bloom said during a Zoom call Friday. “Now with that said, I think you look at someone like Nate and he’s shown that when he’s at his best, he can hang with any of those guys. ... For us to have a good season from a run prevention standpoint, I think some of these guys are going to have to step up. They’re going to have the opportunity to do so. They all have different ingredients that they bring to the table that give us reasons to be optimistic. Obviously time will tell. We’re going to learn some things about them as we go along. But I think to keep runs off the board, we’re going to need some good work out of some of those guys.” The group who Bloom is referencing includes Chris Mazza, Matt Hall, Jeffrey Springs, Kyle Hart, Colten Brewer and Mike Shawaryn who all could be used as openers or provide three or four innings following the opener.
  17. The Grill Master.
  18. Wow, he needed to ride with training wheels!?!?!? How quaint!
  19. “I like him,” Roenicke said. “I think he’s got good stuff, I think he commands the ball really good. It’s not the 95 (mph) but his fastball is sneaky. When he puts it where he wants to, mixing up all his pitches, I think he can be a good major-league starter.”
  20. They don't value the opener enough possibly?
  21. If it's Whitlock, there is certainly an IL stint waiting for him at some point.
  22. TBD if Crag has a different philosophy than what we've seen recently. Bloom built up the farm, but did so without any focus on pitching whatsoever.
  23. Bailey couldn't get Wood to work out in SF. Not sure he'd bring him to BOS.
  24. Big mistake IMO.
