  1. Maybe: Story came in with a known injury that was bound to take him out and eventually did lead to TJS. The other two IL stints were due to a fractured hand by being hit by a pitch and dislocating his shoulder awkwardly diving for a ball. If we squint, we could say that it was just a case of bad luck and expected TJS that was widely known at the time of signing.
  2. They think Roman is good enough to play all three positions at Fenway if he has to. Duran is the worst of the 4 to them.
  3. I don't know if they should have Romy, DHam and IKF on the roster together. That's a lot of redundancy. What's the point of having Hamilton? At least Eaton can IF/OF.
  4. If you have an agreement in place, you don't sign IKF. 😎
  5. Romy just isn't a great platoon partner for Mayer at 3b. He hasn't played a bunch over there and what we've seen has been uninspiring. I guess that's where IKF comes into play? My guess is Mayer gets a longer leash vs LHP.
  6. If nothing significant is going to happen, why say Breslow has multiple fires going right now?
  7. If he's had multiple deals going on, why are the over the 2nd CBT and have no 2b right now? It makes no sense. Two of the deals you mention are straight salary dumps. Maybe that is what he has planned. Oh boy.
  8. Maybe earlier in the offseason. To do it on Feb 6th when time is running out seems foolhardy TBH.
  9. Duran will be 30 this year. Never back down. Stick to your guns when you have a good point. He got slower. He hit worse last year. He could be a one year wonder.
  10. 676 OPS is a step in the right direction. Only 1 HR in 61 AB's though.
  11. I think if most everyone does about the same and they don't add anyone, the players to watch for improvement would be Mayer and Abreu (still only turning 27 this year). Marcelo hits the ball hard, but like Roman he's also had some GB% issues. He has had better FB rates than he showed in MLB last year, so maybe he can get back to that. Abreu cut his K% down a little last season. He's still barreling the ball, but his hard hit rate dropped. If he can get that hard hit rate back up, he should put up bigger numbers.
  12. I don't know if Duran is easy to project either. '23 828 OPS, 122 wRC+, 2.5 fWAR '24 834 OPS, 131 wRC+, 6.8 fWAR (additional games played and defensive turnaround) '25 774 OPS, 111 wRC+, 3.9 fWAR (offense went the wrong direction) Does the offense get better? Stay like '25? I think the 2.4 fWAR that FanGraphs projects is light, but it's hard to say where he's deriving it from. If the defense takes a step back and the offense stays the same, he has way less value. His sprint speed DECREASED last season. 😶
  13. You're thinking of Ethan Hawke?
  14. The issue with Roman is his high GB rate (27th highest of guys > 200 AB's) matching Luis Rengifo. He has always hit the ball hard. He has always hit the ball into the ground. It really limits his ceiling.
  15. Yeah, good deal in a vacuum, but we live in a world where people make duck boat jokes about MiLB signings. 🫠
  16. That would be really silly. What if another team came in and got the guy that you had an agreement in place for? The second that story leaked it would be all over for Craig.
  17. A's are probably happy with Denzel Clarke TBH.
  18. We also can't project improvements from half the roster over '25. Relying on that has always been a little foolish. I know right now we tend to get a little more hopeful about the Sox and overestimate their chances, which causes people to crash out around Memorial Day when they aren't quite what we expected. Overall, I think they'll be about where they were last year. Great pitching, but a step backwards producing runs. 88-90 wins
  19. "None of the above" - Monty Brewster
  20. That's what I said yesterday, he's fine as an EXPENSIVE backup. He's a good defender that can play 2b/SS/3b which nobody else on the 40 man can do reliably. They have Story, Mayer and a big question mark at 2b. Signing IKF is fine as insurance. If he's starting 100+ games and that was the plan? Yuck! Right now, the move pushes Hamilton to AAA and has IKF platooning with Romy. Ok? I'd rather bring in Paredes and push Eaton to AAA as well. That would have Romy and IKF as the bench guys.
  21. We're getting at least 5 years out of Breslow no matter what happens.
