  1. @alexspeier Breslow says it’s “really, really difficult to say” how close the Red Sox are to having their Opening Day roster. He says the team remains engaged in free agency and trade markets. Offseason is over.
  2. He failed 3 different tests. Let Cora get suspended 3 times.
  3. Because they no longer have Jordan Montgomery! The Mets and Reds are more likely to make the postseason than the Sox. Sox are considered to have the 4th hardest Strength of Schedule (A's, Rox, Nats), but iron sharpens iron.
  4. Dig up Bill Mazeroski! Piss on his HOF plaque!
  5. Sweet Spot % - 100th percentile Barrel % - 9th percentile K% - 100th percentile BB% - 15th percetile Check mate atheists!
  6. If that's the case, good luck to Buehler (2 TJS) and Fried (1 TJS and forearm tightness in '23).
  7. Defense: Casas should be a little better as he improved defensively in the 2nd half LF should be better because Masa will get more DH reps SS is going to be much better if Story stays healthy CF depends on who Cora puts out there 2B may be a work in progress, but should be passable RF may be a downgrade depending on who is out there, but I think Abreu and O'Neilll are as good defensively as Verdugo
  8. Monty + deGrom + Max = 4.4 fWAR Sox have room for improvement with the current rotation, but adding an arm would be a huge help.
  9. I'd take non-40 man prospects back.
  10. Qualified hitters .300 or better: 2023 - 9 2013 - 24 2003 - 40 1993 - 35 1983 - 26 1973 - 16 1963 - 15 1953 - 27 1943 - 13 1933 - 39 1923 - 52 1913 - 21 1903 - 28 1893 - 33 1883 - 22 1873 - 24 Considering that there are far more players today, 2023 was far worse for baseball than World War 2. Discuss.
  11. We're the squishy middle. I wouldn't say we're at the s***** stage yet.
  12. Lester - 2nd round Buchholz - 1st round Masterson - 2nd round Kopech - 1st round Houck - 1st round
  13. And if he signs for more, it's ok. It would just be bad if he signs elsewhere for less. Remains to be seen what happens.
  14. Not for much longer as the state is going to increase the age of dancers to 21!
  15. Yes, but the Sox need to actually give the team a chance to win by adding to the rotation! If Story and Yoshida work out, this team is still only half baked (2/3d's?)!
  16. Agreed. All 4 Sox WS teams had lucky health years and were able to replace one injury via trade (Peavy/Eovaldi) or callup (Lester/Buchholz).
  17. This is a lie. We have Florida Snow.
  18. Rangers: add Semien, Seager, deGrom and Eovaldi (plus a host of starting pitchers) over the course of two offseasons How in the world did they get good??? It's a mystery to me!
  19. Yeah, I heard a scouting report this offseason that his IF defense was good, but inconsistent. He just has a natural ability to play OF. I wouldn't risk him getting taken out at SS.
  20. http://news.soxprospects.com/2024/02/how-red-sox-draft-strategy-has-affected.html I'm putting this year because it's less likely to get buried. It's a piece written by Ian Cundall about the recent draft strategy that is hitter focused and generally ignores pitching and the effect it has on developing home grown pitching. Some quick takeaways: Sox are dead last in bonus pool spending on pitching since 2018. Of the 31 pitchers in the top 100, 30 were drafted and only one were IFA's (2024). For last year, it was 25 draftees and 2 IFA's. Half of the top 100 pitchers are from the 1st round. The next quarter are from rounds 2 and 3.
  21. 150/6 is a little high, but not unreasonable. I don't think the ERod comp is terrible and I don't know why the Sox didn't pursue him more. I'd go 22 AAV, so 132/6 max.
  22. @alexspeier Cora said Rafaela will be the CF if he makes the team, but TBD if he opens in AAA or the big leagues. “The defensive game is elite. It’s a game-changer.”
  23. @ChrisCotillo Alex Cora was asked if he wants to return as Red Sox manager in 2025: "I don’t want to talk about that right now." Thank you for this lame duck year, Henry.
  24. @ChrisCotillo Cora confirms Yoshida will get the lion’s share of DH at-bats.
  25. I'm fine with a Woodruff signing and have advocated for it this offseason. They've done it with lesser pitchers so my guess it that his demands are a bit higher than what we may be comfortable with for an injured pitcher.
