  1. This offseason is similar to what Boras did in 2018 when he held a bunch of players out and threatened to have his guys form their own Spring Training team. The general feeling was that Boras was holding the market hostage at the time. I'm not sure he's taking as much of the blame this go around. Hosmer - new team JD - new team Moustakas - returned Arrieta - new team Holland - new team
  2. I don't believe so.
  3. I heard somewhere that Toronto was cutting budget too? Jays just signed IKF to play 3B. Bellinger is the most likely of the bunch to go back to the previous team.
  4. IDK, I wouldn't worry about years of control for Rafaela. He's not a max contract guy that you have to manage the years for. You will go crazy if you start doing it for every player. Just play the guys when they are ready.
  5. I call that game "Werner wants to spend, but Henry is a tight ass." That's what I've said all along. Sam is Henry's mouthpiece.
  6. And if they traded him in 2014, the franchise outlook would be different how?
  7. Monty Snell Clevinger Lorenzen Ryu German Greinke Syndergaard Hill Cueto Odorizzi Kuechel Keller Urias Bauer
  8. Boyd Teheran Velasquez Lauer Names running out for the bottom tier.
  9. That's why I said "generally." Taillon had his second as well. Each surgery just compounds the risk of being able to come back healthy.
  10. He has thrown over 160 innings every year since 2018 except for 2020. Last year he threw 184. It wouldn't be unbelievable for him to match the innings that Paxton and Sale threw last year on his own. It's really not saying much.
  11. This is a game called Too Many Cooks. @redsoxstats “In the end, we don’t have a line in terms of our payroll that we look at as much as trusting that (Breslow) is going to deliver on his assurance that we’re going to be competitive.” Tom Werner, Jan 16 "We have set parameters for (Breslow) to operate under." Sam Kennedy, Feb 19
  12. @tylermilliken_ Kenley Jansen working his way back from lat soreness. Said he expects to play catch today.
  13. He ain't getting any of those deals over the finish line.
  14. Throwing 103 innings in 2019 is why he needed to take almost the entirety of '20-'22 off. You're doin' too much bro!
  15. Respect for our Short King. @gfstarr1 Sam Kennedy told us that Dustin Pedroia FaceTimed him, Alex Cora, several of the assistant GMs at dinner last night to point out the remaining free agents on the market and make his feelings known about what the Red Sox should do…
  16. Unreliable: @Feinsand Blake Snell has an offer on the table from the Yankees, per source, though the Angels and Giants remain possibilities for the reigning NL Cy Young winner.
  17. Not sure O'Neillllll will get to the 979 PA's Turner and Duvall got last year. Would be quite the season though. I think Grissom will beat that OPS number. He should figure out 2B. I'm not worried. I think OF could be interesting. Abreu is a huge question mark. He hit well, but can't keep up that torrid pace. Can Duran stay healthy and repeat what he did? Rafaela has a great glove, but is it just a AAAA bat?
  18. He posts like he on Sox payroll!
  19. Once DFA'd, Sox can't reclaim them. They could put him through trade waivers instead of irrevocable which get him off he 40 man, but there's no point. Was ranked highly, but the injuries piled up and he took several steps backwards.
  20. Overall: Martin Jansen Winckowski Pivetta Crawford Whitlock Schreiber Bernardino Kelly Murphy Jacques Ignoring all others worse than Jacques and/or not around.
  21. His '23 numbers only. He pitched well through May 31, but his bb rate was still higher than '22 at 4.24. Maybe he'll be better after resting this offseason, but I'd still do that trade. Should have dealt him in '22 IMO.
  22. Now they'll just have to let him get healthy and wait for someone else's closer to go down.
  23. This is his first TJS. Was Hendriks considered injury prone at some point? The second time is generally the career killer. People that have had it more that 2 times: Jason Isringhausen 3 TJS, 90 IP, -0.6 fWAR after 3rd surgery Josh Johnson 3 TJS, no MLB innings since 2nd TJS Jonny Venters 3 TJS, 42 MLB innings -0.1 fWAR after 3rd surgery
  24. The last time Henry gave an interview was about 12 months ago: BSJ: Attendance was down last year, as were TV ratings. On local talk radio, the Red Sox are barely mentioned. To what degree are you concerned about the team's slippage in the Boston/New England market.? And for that matter, what do you think has caused that? JH: We play in the toughest division in baseball and despite spending a lot of money annually we haven't gotten the results we were looking for with the exception of 2021. Moving past COVID our rebuild hasn't been what we hoped for. Our fans are sensitive to that. They have expectations that probably match ours. No one was happy with a mediocre result last In our division, if you play .500 ball you are going to finish last. There's been a false narrative that we somehow stopped spending -- completely unsupported by the facts -- that we no longer sign free agents, that we are uninterested in or incapable of winning despite our track record. I saw an article last week about Bill Belichick that posited that he was no longer up to the task. That was ridiculous. It reminded me of the recent narrative surrounding us. I don't think anyone realizes there are 30 teams in these sports every year that are all doing everything they can to win. In a particular year, some clubs are criticized because they aren't "going for it'' when they are going every single thing they can short of destroying their futures to win. You always have to keep an eye on the future. And every team (maybe not the Mets) has a budget. It's so easy to fall as we did in 2022 to mediocrity. We needed to make changes but we haven't lost our way. Historically, when these critics think you're doing something right, we did temporarily lose our way. You have to be willing to go against the grain and we always have.
  25. That gang is all here! @SmittyOnMLB Sam Kennedy chatting with a fan
