  1. He "could be" but they are counting on him to be.
  2. He had a bad April for sure, but he bounced back in May only to suck again in June and July. I don't think that was due to missing Spring Training. More likely due to the underlying injury issues.
  3. He could be and the team is counting on it for some reason. It's more likely he's not though. Most players take a little time to develop, even in the majors. Yes, Anthony grew 2"s over the offseason and put on weight. He's gained bat speed and is hitting moonshots. That doesn't mean he's a lock to be a star player. He still has platoon splits. He only played 10 games at AA. People need to pump the brakes a little. It's ok to be excited, but to expect him to be great right away.
  4. Valdez can only "play" one position. Reyes can back up the entire IF and OF if necessary. I think Reyes (or comparable) is more important to this team than Valdez. Valdez is a platoon DH at best.
  5. He ended 2021 in COL with the arm injury that he got modified TJS for. Black added that there was little to report in terms of Story’s status, but “tightness is still apparent in the forearm and around the elbow."
  6. They haven't announced what the backup plan is, but I'm worried they've put too much onto these young players. We can't expect Anthony to mash from day one. We can't expect Mayer to not struggle here and there. We can't expect Teel to show up on 4/1/25 and be a 30 year old Jason Varitek.
  7. If you look at it as a % of CBT, the highest spending teams would be: 1. 2018 2. 2019 3. 2004 4. 2016 5. 2007
  8. The Sox did win the Mayor's Cup!
  9. I just don't like the cut of Burnes' jib. He's a good pitcher, but I don't think I was ever ALL IN on trading for him.
  10. No. Wheeler's next best season was only 1.3 fWAR less. Burnes' was almost 3!
  11. Carrabis said that his contacts told him two different messages. One said there was a standing offer. The other said the other person was wrong and there was no standing offer. Maybe one was made and pulled at some point?
  12. Have you seen the cost of translators lately?
  13. Pas de commentaire.
  14. "Perfect" in terms of how they perceived that guy to be at the time. Yes, there was significant risk because you don't know how his game would translate as well as the inherent risk of pitcher injury. Typically, Japanese pitchers do well. Maybe he's more Yu Darvish than Pedro Martinez (very good not great), but that's not a bad thing. I don't see him flaming out unless it's due to injury.
  15. 7.2 4.2 5.9 7.5 4.6 3.4 I would NOT say the samples look the same to me. Wheeler's second best season is +1 greater than Burnes. Same with the third season. Burnes is also trending DOWN, especially when you look on Statcast. That's not the case for Wheeler.
  16. It's more about him being HEALTHY. '22 arm issue we knew about '23 came back too soon
  17. Now? They just don't like where the current roster is positioned w/o Anthony/Mayer/Teel and weren't going to jump on anyone unless the perfect option (Yamamoto) was there.
  18. Buoyed by his 7.5 fWAR three years ago.
  19. There both was and was not standing offer to Montgomery if you believe it.
  20. Utterly meaningless. I think it matters that Whitlock has added a pitch. I think it matters that Story looks confident and healthy. I think it matters that the Sox have determined that they want Rafaela to start in CF. I think it matters that Duran is still hitting. I think it matters that we've seen immediate returns from Bailey.
  21. He'll also swing at a lot of pitches other hitters wouldn't swing at.
  22. They met with Yamamoto and made some sort of offer. My guess is that they'll spend on a certain pitcher type at the right time. I think they just looked at this year and figured it wasn't worth spending money on this club with this FA class.
  23. Maybe???????????????????
  24. Sox could have offered 3/75 and he would have turned them down IMO.
  25. Our nightmare is over.
