He has no options. If they put him on the roster, the only way to get him to AAA is to DFA. I think Nate Eaton is more likely an option. Also, it's just Spring Training and these homers mean nothing.
Fitts came into camp with stuff that completely popped. He should get the job. He did tremendous work this offseason. Priester is looking a little better than last year, but he seems behind Fitts now that Fitts has opened a lot of eyes.
They had a Lester/Lackey/Bucholz/Dempster/Dubront rotation which is playoff worthy and had underperformed in previous years. They got a bunch of relief arms and lucked into Uehara. Signing Napoli/Drew/Gomes/Victorino/Carp/Ross greatly improved the offense/defense over the short term. However, Pedroia/Papi/Ellsbury were still leaders of that team.
This team won't win 97 games like the 2013 team.
The 2021 team used 5 starters. The 2020 opened the abbreviated season with 3-4 starters and a nightmare pen. 2020 also had a broken down Beni, Chavis at 1b and Peraza at 2b.
This team lost this WS in the offseasons of '23 and '24. It doesn't take one offseason to win a WS. Even the 2013 team (one hit wonder) had a pretty strong foundation from the farm and prior offseasons.
And now Crochet is saying something completely different to what he said just last week. Maybe he just realized "I want to play this season out first" doesn't play as well as "I just wanted to get an extension done in ST."
Is this post referencing players or ownership?
If it's the players, the biggest worry being injury would have them extend early and it contradicts my point as I've said they DON'T want to sign!
If it's the ownership, the biggest worry being injury would have them only extend players on cheap money, which would make most players unlikely to extend.
