  1. Soto played OF and had numerous 5+ fWAR seasons. Vlad just isn't that guy.
  2. Abreu and Anthony have been out. There's just additional playing time available due all the nonsense going on.
  3. Right now, Campbell is getting a lot of time in LF, but I think it's mainly due to the illness/injuries in the OF that have provided an easy opening for him to be slotted in and that the Sox really want to get as many opportunities as possible for Grissom at 2B. I think they'd rather Campbell/Hamilton at 2B, but need to see what they have in Grissom who missed a considerable amount of time last year.
  4. Injuries may have went down in one year, but that also is a small sample size IMO.
  5. I have one, it's great.
  6. If he's trying to get 15/600ish, is it worth it? I'd be more comfortable with something in the 12/480 area as the back half of that contract could get very Pujols/Cabrera-ish. He's not a guy who has consistently mashed year to year and offers very little on the field. He shouldn't be anywhere near the neighborhood of Juan Soto's deal.
  7. That's why they get 4-5 days off in between starts and don't usually throw more than 110 pitches anymore! The pitch clock is two years old. TJS uptick started well before this.
  8. The giveaways were short, lefthanded, lots of red accoutrements and high socks. If you pulled Reggie Jefferson, it may take posters a bit longer to figure out.
  9. It may be Adams vs Ottavino vs Winck, but I think they really want to keep one of these veteran depth guys on for the start of the season. Ottavino had a decent stretches last season (3/30 - 5/28 3.32 ERA/2.93 FIP, 6/8 - 9/17 2.83 ERA/3.41 FIP). Adams started off strong last season (2.37 ERA/3.32 FIP on 6/1), but fell apart after 7.90 ERA/6.68 FIP 6/2 - 7/13).
  10. It's Winck vs Guerrero. Winck wasn't great last season and has started off poorly. The org is probably pretty down on him. I'd rather see Guerrero get the nod too. The bullpen projected here is what SoxProspects projected on their previous podcast. Seems about right? Last spot is between Adams and Ottavino.
  11. You're going to need to show your work with that one. What is the 13 man offensive unit look like with Anthony, Eaton AND Thompson?
  12. Eaton has an MLB career 549 OPS. You guys need to know what you're getting if you're putting these dudes on the roster.
  13. Sternberg really has to go. Dude has treated the Tampa area poorly over the past few years and is one of the owners who doesn't want to put any of his money into owning a baseball team.
  14. And they are hitting the daylights out of pitchers that are working on pitches, not trying to necessarily get hitters out. These guys are going out there and intentionally working on a specific pitch that day and not caring about the on field results because the game doesn't matter. They pull guys after 1.2 innings. It's not real baseball. I love these games, but don't look at Trayce Thompson and think he's all of a sudden a MLB talent because of a few weeks of ST baseball.
  15. I wouldn't trade Hamilton for a depth piece. Who is playing 2b to start the year?
  16. There have always been great hitters.
  17. If you add them to the MLB roster to start the year, the only way to get them back to AAA is to DFA them. People are getting too worked up over Spring Training numbers as usual.
  18. And elsewhere it was noted that a pitch like the sweeper may add additional strain on the elbow. Pitching that at 100% effort everytime may not be worth it in the long run. Just look at how the Rays have treated their pitching staff over the years. Lots of great young arms and reclamation projects who pop for a year and lots of injuries.
  19. If the Red Sox were a serious team, they would never add Thompson AND Eaton to start the year. C'mon man.
  20. Why add Zavala now if you can just wait until later when/if you need to call him up?
  21. Priester: 2HR, 8 H, 4 BB, 5 K, 6.2 IP Fitts: 0HR, 6 H, 4 BB, 9 K, 6.1 IP Right now, Fitts is in the driver's seat in stuff and on the field results. There is a good chance they may need both of them right out of the gate.
  22. Not sure he's even in the discussion for the 5th spot right now.
  23. I believe it's more about max effort than the time between pitches. If pitchers were dialing it down 2-3 mph and locating, there arms would be in a better position.
  24. The last time he played in MLB, he had a k rate of 40+% over a big sample size. He's an OF Bobby Dalbec. He's a guy that is supposed to go off in Spring Training. You want him in AAA selling tickets, hitting bombs and sending kids home happy.
  25. Which ball specifically? I think a lot of the older measurements are completely made up (i.e. the Williams seat).
