  1. Or start to celebrate the things that are going right now? Abreu had a strong season and won a GG. Houck pitched like a STUD. Duran was a monster all year. Devers struggled with an injury and still had one of his best seasons. Justin Slaten looks like a guy they can count on. They traded for a guy that could be a bonafide ACE. This team is in a much different spot than they have been previously. Are they ready to take that next step? We don't know, I feel more confident in this team than in any of the previous 3 versions.
  2. Command? They just brought in Aroldis Champan. They aren't worried about command.
  3. That makes one of us.
  4. Time to turn Bello into a high leverage reliever.
  5. Maybe, but Pivetta's contract will be larger AND longer.
  6. I don't think the Buehler signing is sweetening anyone's Flavor Aid. The real sweetener was Crochet. People are mad that they traded for him rather than signed him. That argument doesn't hold much weight to me. I'm not believing that this is a playoff team, but at least the rotation looks interesting. I've said all along that this had the chance to be another wait til next season year as they put the kids into the rotation. I think there will be growing pains, but at least Breslow seems to be willing to make some larger pitching moves than what we saw out of Bloom.
  7. How was Buehler supposed to be good when he was out with TJS? His '22 season is basically a Pivetta season prior to the injury (12 GS, 4.02 ERA, 101 ERA+). If your only complaint is "he didn't come back strong enough in 2024, I'm not sure what to tell you. The Dodgers thought it was going to take 24 months for him to get back to 100%. He had his surgery in August 2022. His regular season showed that he wasn't 100%. Will he be there? IDK. On a one year flier, it's a not a horrible bet IMO. I was worried they'd go multiple years with him.
  8. 2024: Jorge Soler 422 SLG, 754 OPS, 113 wRC+ Justin Turner 370 SLG, 717 OPS, 111 wRC+ Masataka Yoshida 403 SLG, 747 OPS, 110 wRC+ JD Martinez 408 SLG, 728 OPS, 108 wRC+ Yoshida's right in line with 3 other guys that this place has wanted to be our DH at various points. Sox need to see this contract through for better or worse.
  9. Pivetta 2024: 145 innings, 4.14 ERA This isn't some insurmountable climb! That's 2022 or 2023 Patrick Sandoval. Pivetta career: 223 G, 11.9 fWAR, 10.3 bWAR Buehler career: 131 G, 15.0 fWAR, 12.2 bWAR If I'm trying to build a playoff rotation, I want the guy with upside. That's Buehler. It may not work, but we had Pivetta for 4+ years and that didn't go very far.
  10. The Sale saga should show you that oft injured pitchers with great stuff in their past can pull out a CY season in the right environment.
  11. Yup, wait for the Sox to actually start losing and everything falls off the rails before proclaiming the season over. They went over .500 last year and added at TOTR stud. They should be as good if not a little better regardless of losing the mid players that left town.
  12. Cohen was always going to outbid the Sox. If the Sox bid 800M, the Mets would have gone higher. The Mets and Sox could duke it out all year for Soto while all the other FA's go elsewhere. Henry put a line in the sand at 700M (or two Mookie Betts contracts). Not sure how you can be even miffed at that.
  13. Cots is whatever at this point. It's valuable for historical stuff, but that's about it for me.
  14. Getting injured pitchers is the new market inefficiency!
  15. I think it will be the Padres, but the Sox have shown interest!
  16. Ah still not understanding anything anyone else posts?
  17. "They big 5.5M on Sasaki knowing it wouldn't be enough." It's the same argument, but you'd be ok with them missing out on Sasaki ONLY IF THEY MAX OUT THEIR IFA MONEY IN THEIR BID.
  18. I don't think they go with a six man rotation, but I bet it's something being discussed internally. I would not trade Crawford just because he doesn't have a current spot in the rotation. Anyone of the other 5 starters could go down at a moment's notice. Having him as insurance is huge for the club.
  19. They can max out what the have available and it will still be less than the 8 teams you mentioned. Also, are we giving Henry credit for missing out on Soto and Fried or not? I guess we shouldn't be too upset with ownership if they were willing to pay 700M this offseason, but got outbid.
  20. I get it. The past few years have been really rough on everyone. People need to give themselves a little break once in a while though.
  21. Obviously it's a switch on Henry's back like Vicki from Small Wonder.
  22. Moon is very Grinchy today for some reason. I will let him be upset that the Sox acquired Crochet, Buehler, Sandoval and Chapman BEFORE Christmas. There's more work to be done obviously. Just relax a little.
