  1. The point of an extension isn't "to earn the money." The point of the extension is so that the player isn't able to leave after arbitration. If he's hitting 750 with great defense, the Sox could still afford to re-sign Ceddanne when FA comes around without much trouble. He's not getting a max contract.
  2. I think Alcantara becomes the backup and Zanetello and Arias split SS/2B. Maybe Zanetello finds some time at 3B? I don't see him moving to OF unless they are ready to promote Yophery to POR.
  3. I like replay, but not necessarily how it's implemented. I think most calls on the field should be reviewable. The only ones I'd exclude are balks, check swings and other ump judgement calls like infield flies.
  4. I think he still can play defense. They can part him because they already have a long term CFer on the roster (Rafaela).
  5. If Casas isn't on the roster, you give it a shot.
  6. I'm only vocal about this position at the moment as I was called out for it a few weeks ago. If someone believes it is a good extension, great! It doesn't bother me. It bothers some other posters that I don't think it was a good extension though. Now I'm going to say some nice things about Ceddanne: 813 OPS last 13 G Hard Hit % up to 43.7 Barrelling the ball more EV is up xBA, xSLG, xWOBA all are career highs His best OPS months last season were May, June and July. 5/20-8/21: 773 OPS I think there's a chance he goes on a nice little streak here as he's playing about as well as he ever has and the underlying metrics show it.
  7. Players that could be traded this year (rule 5 eligibility issues): Bleis Castro Monegro Mullins Paez Sandlin
  8. I think you should call up Slugger from AA and get some good prospects for Wally.
  9. He was already on the roster and was highly unlikely to make more than his extension via arbitration. I just don't see the reason now for the extension and didn't see the reasoning back then aside from "hey fans, we're trying." However, Bello's makes sense due to the rising cost in pitcher salaries. I think simply extending Bello would have been enough for fans.
  10. It doesn't matter what it buys you on the open market, the Sox didn't have to spend it.
  11. I don't really care what they do with Rafaela. Trade him, bench him, make him the starting CFer. I also don't think people would be screaming about an extension for him as nobody is really upset over a lack of an extension for Hamilton, Slaten, Casas, Crawford, Houck, Abreu, etc. Wilyer has outperformed Rafaela since being called up in '23 and not one person has questioned the lack of extension. Using bWAR (favorable to Rafaela), Abreu has a career 5.5 war while Ceddanne is at 3.6. Where are the Wilyer Warriors banging the drum on getting this extension signed? He's a great defender AND mashes!
  12. One is an all time great player that you build a franchise around. One is an ok player that had a great season and is easily parted with.
  13. I may be alone on an island here, but my priority is wins and losses! 🤔
  14. I'm just waiting for the Reggie Jefferson one.
  15. I don't think the Sox see him as a RFer. Right now, he's mostly playing LF in WOO. If they wanted to utilize his speed going forward, they'd plop him in RF, but I guess they think his best fit is LF.
  16. Are we sure Abreu's value is that high? Everyone around the league knows his faults. I think they could get some good prospects for him, but I don't think it would knock our socks off.
  17. Duran is NOT Betts. Really tough comparison there. Betts left BOS after his year 26 season. Duran's year 26 season was '23.
  18. The development system helped a little, but 90+% of the credit has to go to Campbell. Unfortunately, there's a lot of slapping each other on the backs right now over how great of a job they did with this guy. Pretty annoying. He's been great. The type of player you want around for a long time and a guy you really want to root for.
  19. The only way Devers plays first is if Casas is traded midseason and the phase Devers in.
  20. People said Breslow didn't do enough for catcher in the offseason, but Narvaez has a higher fWAR and bWAR than Higashioka so far. I think the Sox move on from Wong at the end of the year.
  21. Now you have a 6AAV guy for the life of the contract going against the CBT with a notoriously cheap ownership. Why? It just doesn't make sense if you're betting on upside for a guy who is glove first.
