  1. Former GM Bowden is generally an idiot. The Sox would have 3 years of control for Alcantara who hasn't thrown an MLB inning since his injury and was babied in ST. It may be a fair trade, but I'd want to swap out either Valera or Arias for someone else.
  2. If the Sox are so data driven, why isn't JetBlue set up for Statcast? Or do you think the Sox have internal means to measure and aren't worried about sharing?
  3. Even if he was able to turn his hitting around and hit a little, he has shown no power and has no defensive home. I'd have no qualms in trading him.
  4. Someone will underperform or get injured. If Mayer is just in AAA for an extra few months because the lineup is cranking, who cares?
  5. '18-'24 (6.4 seasons) leaders in IP Nola 1264 Wheeler 1207 Berrios 1201 Others above 1000: Cole, Corbin, Castillo, Gibson, Morton, Gausman, Lynn, Mikolas How many of these guys would we really want in this rotation today? Half? The only guys that would have been close to max contracts this offseason would be Cole (injured now) and Wheeler. Consistent innings eaters aren't going to be much of a thing anymore with all the injuries.
  6. https://soxprospects.com/40man.htm Sandoval, Murphy and Penrod are all listed on the SoxProspects 40 man roster page when I look at it. Murphy and Penrod haven't been added to the 60 day IL yet per MLB. https://www.mlb.com/redsox/roster/40-man
  7. Maybe even a convoluted player and/or team option for '26?
  8. The problem with Paxton is that they were unable to deal him when he had value. He never earned the contract they paid him.
  9. 2024's LA-sweet spot% was similar to 2020-2022 when his results were really poor. His hard hit% from 2023 was bottom 10th percentile. I'm not sure how realistic it is for him to put up big numbers going forward. Yankees Stadium3 should help, but it's only for half the year. I'm skeptical.
  10. What's the market for Bellinger? I can't imagine it's very high.
  11. Is it completely unrelated to the Abreu stuff?
  12. Without Judge, the Yankees would be last place in this division. I hope to see them below .500 some year, but it's probably not going to be 2025.
  13. This is the last I'll mention about THAT catch. In the aftermath of the play, not one poster bothered to even mention the catch. Nobody even mentions Beni by name. I think it's a catch that became more notable as it was replayed over and over again. In the moment, an important play, but not a difficult one. https://talksox.com/forums/topic/86767-1018-alcs-game-5/page/31/
  14. I thought this was important to share considering Davy's standing here:
  15. I'm better than most observers, obviously.
  16. He didn't deserve that GG, not that GG's mean a whole lot anyway.
  17. His 26 games in the complex league in '21 doing a lot of lifting for that stat.
  18. I think Rafaela could eventually be as good or better than peak JBJ. He's probably as good as pre-prime JBJ. Beni made one decent catch in 2018 and everyone thinks he was a solid OFer. The catch he made was IMPORTANT, but it was a catch that is made on a almost nightly basis in MLB. Beni is basically Yoshida out there now. 2024 -7 OAA 5th percentile, -5 Arm Value 1st percentile 2023 -11 OAA 2nd percentile, -4 Arm Value 2nd percentile His OAA has been 0 or negative every season except for 2018.
  19. Ok, but he couldn't even hit LHP or offspeed AA pitching. He needs to at least learn to do that moderately at the AAA level before we can say he's MLB ready, right? My worry is that if he's advanced too soon, he'll get eaten alive. He's looked so great this spring and I want him to continue on that path.
  20. That COVID thread we tried worked out really well when we tried to ease up. No drama at all from what I remember. Anyway, I appreciate and support what Maddie has written, but will be abstaining from ongoing discussion.
  21. While I'm here, just going to give shoutouts to two players: https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=walker001fle https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/burkegl01.shtml
  22. Mayer is still hammering fastballs from RHP. It'll be interesting to see what his splits look like when he's in AAA. He has so many MLB tools right now. Hope he can work out some of the things we've noted previously (LHP/offspeed).
