  1. I was clearly looking at the '23 numbers. Regardless, they aren't DFA'ing Alcala if Murphy has options.
  2. 8 in 4 months is like once every other week. I'm just saying that it's devalued, right? It's not what it once was. Javier Lopez had 20 in 2007 (every third appearance). Bernardino does it like every sixth appearance. NOTE: Lopez was the only guy I looked at.
  3. Not just his rib injury, but also his previous injuries that he had while in the org. Casas doesn't stay healthy and doesn't come back quickly. Guys who had the same injury: Edwin Diaz - missed a full year Dustin Fowler - played in AAA after 9 months Einar Diaz - never played again We don't know how Casas will progress. But our best guess should be to take a conservative approach and expect him to need at least 12 months.
  4. If they had moved on from Casas and Yoshida last offseason, the Sox would have been better off in '25.
  5. Recovery timeline of a year would bring him back next May/June. He won't be playing for BOS on Opening Day. With Casas's known issues of being a slow healer, he'll take the full 12 months if not longer.
  6. Right, but if a part timer has -2 DRS at several positions, it's not necessarily adversely affecting the guy. He'd probably just be a -7 DRS guy overall anyway.
  7. Your mistake was letting the AI do your research for you.
  8. I'm planning for the future to have a better option than Casas at 1b.
  9. Story ranks high in chances because Sox pitching is 4th in GB rate and there are only 6 SS's that have played more G than Story. For a better defense, Story should be at 2b and Breslow should find a long term above average SS. (Mayer or other) The defense has been absolutely CARRIED by Rafaela and Narvaez's defense at CF and C. Playing Rafaela out of position is egregious to me.
  10. He already has 4 rings. There clearly is no sense of urgency anymore. The budget is far more important than it was when Larry Lucchino was around.
  11. It could happen to anyone. It just happens more often to Casas than other players. And when it happens to Casas, he stays out longer too.
  12. They will use the 30M AAV towards internal extensions most likely.
  13. He is a guy that has a trend of not staying healthy throughout his career. Not a guy I'd give a long term contract too or trust for a starting position without a good backup.
  14. Alcala with the Sox: 1.72 ERA, 3.92 FIP, 1.404 WHIP Murphy '25: 4.91 ERA, 3.70 FIP, 1.406 WHIP They are close enough in terms of production to not DFA Alcala. May as well keep them both by just sending Murphy to AAA for a few weeks until you need his fresh arm. You need all the arms you can get at this point in the season and can't rely on the waiver wire.
  15. You can not say with a straight face that the fielding in LF has been decent. Duran has let catchable balls simply drop due to a lack of focus. Those don't even get called as errors. To say errors are unimportant and can be ignored is just ignoring a significant portion of what happens when a team plays defense. This team has been the bottom of the barrel in errors year in and year out. It's not just random at this point. You can't overlook it. It's a skill to finish the play and make the out.
  16. I've never heard of this "disadvantage" that you're talking about. I've seen enough Toro and Romy to know that they are defensively challenged. 1b, 2b, SS consistently leave me unimpressed. LF with Duran has been pretty rough as well. While the Sox rate high in DRS, they are middling in OAA and 2nd worst in MLB in errors committed.
  17. Sure, he's got over a decade to spend that money to make up for it.
  18. He has been in BOS since '22. He has played in over 250 G. To say he has never been given a chance is ridiculous.
  19. You'd think OF would be locked in, but Rafaela is a 2b apparently.
  20. It makes no sense to DFA anyone if Murphy still has options. You need every arm available.
