  1. Happy Birthday to Red Sox legends Jim Lonborg, Travis Shaw, Richard Bleier and Bob Montgomery.
  2. Better to have the baby in mid April than mid October, I guess. If you plan for December, you could still have the baby show up early and need to be out in the playoffs. I can't be too upset about 3 days off in April. Wilyer came back from his paternity mashing, so maybe Breggie will too.
  3. Last night was his first bad outing and it was in not great weather. However, it was against AA hitters. 5 H and 3 BB in 2 IP is not great no matter the weather, unless it's raining.
  4. I agree about Ingrassia, but disagree on the second two. I think Cason may take a little while to adjust, though his velo should show well in FCL. Garcia is coming back from injury and may get off to a bit of a slow start. It also may impact his defense more than we hope. I'd swap out those two for Blake Aita and Harold Rivas for two different reasons. I think Blake Aita has the ability to storm through A ball with little trouble and reach AA by the end of the season due to his spin rates and increased velo. Harold Rivas has the physical gifts that other prospects have shown in the past to go from a 40ish ranked prospect to being strapped to a rocket ship once they start to appear in games (Bleis, Jimenez, Antoni Flores, et al).
  5. Casas is also carrying a high k rate and watching a lot of called third strikes. He's frustrating as hell and not providing any defense.
  6. He needs to be better about planning these things out if he doesn't want to miss time during the season.
  7. It takes 18 months to really come back from TJS. I know he had the brace procedure, but I wouldn't expect him to be fully ready for another few months. It could be a rough ride for a while.
  8. Also, wanted to note that Antonio Anderson has started off hot with an 884 OPS after massively struggling last year. He was a guy that really needed the Lowell Spinners route, but was put directly into low A. Maybe should have spent the year in FCL, but now it tends to be for DSL guys? MLB really messed with the MiLB progression by getting rid of short season.
  9. Vaughn Grissom already has 5 XBH. Last year he only had 10 in 53 games. Considering the terrible weather they've been playing in, that's pretty, pretty good. I won't project 20 HR for him, but it at least seems like he's put last year behind him. 6'3" Grissom has had a few appearances at 1B, but I don't know if his bat is enough to get him up to BOS for that position and his glove isn't good enough for a UTIL role.
  10. Drohan watch (after 5 IP in last night's outing): 4 G, 14.2 IP, 0.89 WHIP, 23 K, 7 BB, 6 H, 1.23 ERA 👀
  11. Wonder when he gets the call to AAA with Sandlin. Sandlin is nasty, but still walking too many guys.
  12. We could all use some Morgan Magic right about now.
  13. Story has a quiet 123 wRC+ too. Since April 2 (14 games), he's 902 OPS and 158 wRC+. Overall, on a 5 fWAR pace.
  14. Houck fell back to earth after July 1 last year. Bello is out. Fitts is injured. Buehler was a shot in the dark for a FA pickup and had horrible regular season numbers last year. Red Sox were relying on Sean Newcomb to provide meaningful innings early on (hasn't pitched 50+ innings in MLB since '19). Seems like the rotation was a little overrated going into the season aside from the tippy top. I think we can expect more out of Duran and Casas, but Abreu and Campbell certainly hit above their weight for a long period of time. The defense is still mediocre to bad or at least it feels that way. On paper, are they really that good?
  15. He gets blamed if they go too long. He gets blamed if they're pulled too early.
  16. Gio ended up starting anyway and going 2 innings giving up 3 runs, 5 H, 3 BB to AA hitters.
  17. That's a waste of a good glove. Kristian Campbell is 6'3".
  18. A lot of hard contact for Pepiot. Maybe he can get on track.
  19. However, the Red Sox did not sign any Black free agents between the 1972 start of the free agency system and 1993, thereby missing out on a substantial portion of top baseball talent during that twenty-one year period. Damn you Joe Cronin! It's all YOUR fault! Not that they couldn't sign a black free agent until Jean Yawkey finally died in 1992. Cronin may have been a complicit POS, but I think the Yawkeys put a lot of pressure into how that team looked from the 30's to the 90's. Good thing Tom was inducted into the HOF and Jean was on the Board of Directors of the HOF.
  20. About that...
