  1. Dumping a top prospect to clear salary is really dumb.
  2. Rockies are truly awful. Dumping the hitting coach does nothing but save the team money.
  3. I never said they "didn't try." I said they "only figured out 3b" and traded for a TOTR starter. All the other problems with the roster from previous years still exist. No RHB. Bad defense. Story health question marks. Masa not fitting on the roster. Casas not performing for a full year. A closer nobody is comfortable with for many reasons. We assumed that Campbell was going to take over 2B when he made the Opening Day roster and that didn't even happen. It's still a revolving door there! Is Rafaela the CFer going forward? Nobody knows! Is Duran the LFer going forward? Nobody knows!
  4. Breslow gets a lot of credit for adding those two and the two extensions. HOWEVER, he had a middling team to work with that had injured players (Crawford, Gio, Devers) and guys that are clogging up the 40 man roster (Masa, Story, Casas?) that are preventing Breslow from having a clear path to promote long term solutions of Anthony and Mayer. The Catching is terrible. The defense has been terrible. The team strikes out every time I look up from my phone. Just adding 2 good to great players doesn't even make this team a lock for the playoffs! Breslow needed to make other deals this offseason and he was unable to do so. This isn't hindsight is 50/50. Many of us wanted to see trades happen to clear these paths!
  5. 1. No, it's like the end of May-mid June. The date changes every year.
  6. Would he get more than 2/50 on the open market? He'll be 33 and probably has 3-4 years left at most. Would he believe he could get 4/70 (i.e. more years at lower AAV)? Christian Walker got 3/60 at age 34 last offseason. Teoscar got 3/66 at age 32. The FA class doesn't look very promising, so maybe he thinks he can score a deal? IDK.
  7. If he opts out, there's a good chance the Sox full court press on him and bring him back if they liked what they saw this year.
  8. We're told that Yordanny is going to hit his ceiling and get challenged at some point, but we haven't seen it yet. He may end up breezing through AAA at this point.
  9. They still need to figure out Story/Masa if they really want to make room for all of the big 3. If they move on from Casas as well, it clears up even more room and makes the roster more manageable. OF Duran/Anthony/Abreu/Rafaela IF Bregman/Mayer/Campbell/Devers DH Cheap Platoon/Rotation of above?
  10. The farm is better, but they are hoping that things fall into place. 2B? No plan at the moment? Campbell splits time as a utility guy for some infernal reason. 1B? Casas has never played a full productive season. SS? Story has never played a full productive season here. Mayer is available at some point, but he doesn't have a great health record either. DH? Masa wasn't traded and now sits in AAA. Devers is the DH, but wasn't told he was the DH until he got to ST. LF? Duran for now? Roman Anthony has played more LF than anywhere else this year. CF? The starter and Cora favorite is Rafaela, but he is benched for Campbell. RF? Abreu who gets platooned for Refsnyder who can't play a lick of defense. C? Stinks. The only position they really figured out was 3b. And that guy has an opt out this offseason!!!
  11. They traded for Crochet and signed Bregman. The rest of the roster was kind of left up in the air and not in a good way.
  12. I think we have a platoon partner for Carlos Narvaez:
  13. How many times have we said this before only to be let down?
  14. I don't regret trading Quinn Priester and his 5.33 xERA.
  15. Coffey had started off the season really hot, but played a premium position that was a strength for the org. '24 GRE 784 OPS post trade '24 VAN 581 OPS (High A) '25 VAN 509 OPS Paulino used to be a highly regarded prospect who now is a light hitting utility guy who hasn't OPS'd above 650 in AA since the trade. Batista is a 20 year old pitcher in low A who is now in a piggyback role. He may get further than the other two, but it's really hard to tell as he he's far away.
  16. I can ignore the low bb rate, if you're in the 97th percentile for k rate. This team can't even put the ball in play when runners are on.
  17. Wilyer is at 1 fWAR already. Steamer projected him for 1.4 fWAR for the whole season with terrible defense. The games are always more important. The data can give us some insight and some fun quirks, but it doesn't predict the future anymore than the magic 8 ball that sits on my daughter's desk.
  18. Yoshida rarely k's. He has a wonderful approach that is lacking. I think we've all had some questions about the roster construction here.
  19. You'd think he'd benefit, as SoxProspects used to always proclaim that Meidroth was the master of the ABS system. However, when they looked into it, Meidroth had about a 50% challenge rate, which would probably be the same as Tristan's. I'm with you, I'd rather he have a better two strike approach. What other reason is there for him to adjust his stance with two strikes??? His called third strike % is 39%, which is just about the same as '24 and '22. Seems like '23 is the abberration. It's weird that he's swinging more earlier in the count, but taking the same amount of borderline called third strikes. Right now, his bb rate is way down and his hard hit rate is down. He's going oppo more than ever. There may be SOME BABIP luck going on, but I think he's a guy that needs a few to drop in just to get his confidence back.
  20. If Story stays healthy, he's a 4 win player.
  21. If he's treating it like Spring Training and hitters are sitting on the offspeed stuff, I can't worry about the outcome as long as he's locating his pitches.
  22. Slaten leaning into that big curve. His curve has more vertical break than 2015 Kershaw. 😍
