  1. His whiff rate is still bad, but it's better than what it was in '24 (down 6%) and his k rate is only 17% at the moment. All his metrics right now are solid. He just continues to chase a lot of pitches outside the zone WHICH HE HAS ALWAYS DONE AND WILL ALWAYS DO. I think he's been a little unlucky so far, but his approach is better this year than it was last year for the most part. He's walking more, hitting the ball harder, barrelling the ball more often, but there's only one issue that I've noticed. Once he gets to pulling that ball in the air again, he'll put up numbers again.
  2. Valera would be the youngest pitcher on the Salem Red Sox right now. There are two 19 year olds (Bates and De La Cruz) and everyone else is 21 or above. He's still 18!
  3. The two teenagers on GRE offensively are Arias and Yophery (high ceiling prospects). The pitchers in the league are generally much older, which is why you get the big variance for Valera. The next youngest pitcher on GRE is Paez at 21, almost 2.5 years older than Valera.
  4. I don't think middle relief in general has been the problem. Weissert: 3.65 ERA/2.75 xFIP Wilson: 4.15 ERA/3.72 xFIP Bernardino: 2.45 ERA/3.76 xFIP I think the two relief issues so far have been (SSS): Slaten: 5.56 ERA/5.18 xFIP, 43% LOB Kelly: 9.00 ERA/3.62 xFIP, 41% LOB
  5. Bright side: 11 whiffs from Houck last night, 12.8 swinging strike %. Much better than I've seen recently from him.
  6. Trying to figure out which genre of speculative fiction this is... 🤔
  7. Yesterday, Valera had 69 pitches, 48 strikes and 13 whiffs. As an 18 year old in High A, it's pretty good. Per bref, Valera is 4.2 years younger than the weighted average of all players in that league.
  8. Valera is still VERY young for his league. I don't think you have to worry about his numbers. You can even go back and look at Perales's game logs as he moved up the ladder and see his struggles. Drohan just couldn't find the k zone once he was promoted to AAA. He was then taken in the Rule 5 draft and I believe got injured and had a lost season. He's now back and trying to reclaim his value. I don't know what his ceiling is, but he could work himself into a bullpen role. IDK.
  9. He didn't look good and gave up loud contact in extras. Needs swing and miss with a runner on. It's not an ideal spot for him, but he still needs to produce and didn't look good to me.
  10. I was right about this though. I think teams that load up on LHB will cause Houck trouble until he can figure out his secondary stuff again.
  11. WTF? 15 K's in 23 PA's in first 5 G.
  12. Rollercoaster April for Devers. Due to lack of Spring Training? Other? If it's because of lack of Spring Training, who/what are we blaming it on? Training staff? Coaching? Devers? Simple timing of his injury?
  13. This is exactly how I feel about this series. Slaten has arguably cost the Sox 3 games this year: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BAL/BAL202503310.shtml And games 2 and 3 of this series.
  14. No, sir! A waste of a roster spot right now.
  15. He has until Memorial Day for me. He has to be closer to 700 by then though...
  16. Almost every reliever is going to have a blowup here and there. Unfortunately, they had to do it in back to back games when we were hoping the Sox could get on a roll. The only guy who has been really consistent is Chapman who everyone assumed would have given up the closer spot by now.
  17. That doesn't sound fun. If I had to buy a jersey today, it'd be Campbell (he'll be here for a while and he's great to watch).
  18. He was really rough all of last season and I haven't watched him at all this year. Have seen his boxscores though.
  19. I think their thinking on Castro is that he's still only going to turn 22 this season and did OPS 800+ in GRE. Maybe he's able to do the same as he climbs the ladder? He did tap into more power last season. I don't hold out a lot of hope, but his scouting report is "above average raw power." Bleis has already dropped in most rankings to the teens. He has really struggled (production and health) ever since the start of '23. I think they clearly hyped him a little too much. I think Cespedes probably needs to be around where SP ranks Bleis mainly because he doesn't have a true defensive home. He'll have time to mature offensively, but I don't think he's ever going to get to even average defensively at any position. I was hoping that Blaze would get to AAA at some point and have a few years in WOO for fans to cheer him on before he goes elsewhere for a cup of coffee. We might not get that.
  20. He has a positive OAA and DRS too... 😤
  21. Bleis was hittig 574 on 4/23 and then had a 4 game hit streak that brought him up to 829 (7H, 2 2B, 2 HR, .750 BABIP, 7 K's, 2 BB's) How about: Blaze Jordan 644 OPS (3rd year in POR) Natanael Yuten 577 OPS (repeating SAL) Yoeilin Cespedes 563 Thompson 689 (how can we leave him off Opening Day Roster?!?!?!) Pitchers: Zack Kelly 1202 (AAA) Sikes 1030 (3 appearances as a pitcher? Is he two way now?)
