  1. Robert Stock 3.32 ERA AAA 10.13 ERA MLB
  2. Because the difference between AAA pitching and MLB pitching is HUGE! Just because a player is mashing at AAA doesn't mean he's going to be good at the MLB level. Scouting boxscores doesn't work.
  3. Yeah, you can like individual trades and moves (Verdugo trade, Crochet trade/extension, Wilson/Chapman FA signings, Narvaez), but he manages the entire squad. Even if every move he makes is an A+, the team could still be a .500 team because of the moves he fails to make (Wong, OF logjam, 1B, 2B, SP FA signings, Story, Masa, etc.).
  4. The team was a 78-84 win team and had a CY winner on the staff. Breslow traded the CY winner and got nothing back. He added 3 wins the first year after being well under the cap going into the offseason. What did he add in the offseason that considerably helped the team: O'Neill and the Verdugo trade. Last year was kind of a disappointment. Going into this season, the hope was that the Yankees were taking a step back and the Sox were taking a step forward. The Yankees did take a step back. The Red Sox are in the same place! No matter what moves he did, the Red Sox are in the same place they were with the last year's squad. That's on Breslow 100%. "We'll have more wins without Devers." They are 3-5 without Devers and won't be adding to the MLB roster from that trade for a week and a half. 🙃
  5. The main reason is that hitters are focused on launch angle and trying to hit every ball over the fence instead of just simply making contact. Arraez was hitting .381 on 8/1/23. He's not the greatest contact hitter of all time, he just has a throwback approach. Gwynn, Molitor, Ichiro and other great contact hitters would be just as good now as they were back then. Hell, they probably even have higher OBP's since pitchers throw so many BB's now.
  6. This is why the Sox won't get any better. The defer to mediocre veterans rather than giving run to younger guys that need reps at their long term positions. Cora is clearly a good manager for a ballclub that wants to win in the postseason, but not the right manager for a ballclub that is trying to rebuild.
  7. Trade him to MIL for Peralta and Hoskins. If Hoskins plays well down the stretch, re-sign him next year.
  8. Romy has been pretty great this season. I'm not buying into any idea that it's a breakout, but more of a high watermark.
  9. That would give him 6 more productive seasons I guess. I think the Giants would take that and eat the last two seasons.
  10. I think you can get Hoskins for much less or just wait until the offseason. Is it really worth it for two months? I don't think so.
  11. 1B - Rhys Hoskins SP - Freddy Peralta, Andrew Heaney, Tomoyuki Sugano, Seth Lugo
  12. If they went out and signed Burnes to a massive deal, he'd be out for the year too. Manaea hasn't even pitched yet this seasons (3/75).
  13. You don't know how often that dog bites!
  14. I think they did a good job with the Verdugo, Yorke and Priester trades. The Sale trade just left a sour taste in everyone's mouth. I'll reevaluate the Devers trade later on in the season.
  15. FA: SP- Cease, King, Framber RP - Rogers, Williams Others - Tucker, Schwarber, Ozuna, Hoskins, Alonso I think I'm talking myself into one of the five bats I listed. 😐
  16. Without Theo, I'm not sure where JH or the Sox are. First two Sox WS are mostly on Theo. 2013 was largely a Theo team with a good offseason shopping spree by Ben. 2018 included a core of Theo guys Mookie, JBJ, Xander, Vazquez. It was another GM that "fed the monster" and got that 2018 team over the top. Ben, Bloom and Breslow aren't guys that will consistently be able to do it here IMO. Ben 315-333 Bloom 272-274 Breslow 121-121 And JH prefers the Ben/Bloom/Breslow path...
  17. It's why you can't rely on FA to build your team. Too much risk involved.
  18. To me, the problem isn't that it's a lineup of kids. If they just went that route and put the kids in the spots they were supposed to be and ran with it, the team would be more enjoyable. However, over and over again, they just half ass it. Mayer will most likely go to 2b instead of SS. Anthony won't be designated a fulltime OF spot. Rafaela should just be the CFer 150 games a year. Force Abreu to face LHP and see if he gets better rather than in a parttime role. Give Fitts and Harrison starting rotation spots for the rest of the season. I don't know how they serve both masters of "remain in contention" and "play the kids." I think they should actively be trying to deal: Chapman, Story, Buehler, Masa, Bernardino, Wilson, Romy, Toro, Hamilton, Duran, Wong, Refsnyder. These guys aren't going to be part of the next great Red Sox team. I think they hold onto Bregman as the "glue guy" and an additional bench coach for Cora. Maybe they work on a short term extension for him at big $$$.
  19. They are currently OVER the lux tax. A trade of Buehler and Chapman at the deadline should get them under it.
  20. Buehler had a nice stretch from mid April to mid May, but that pitcher went AWOL. Not sure he has any trade value unless the Sox eat all the salary and the return would still be minimal.
  21. Also Happy Birthday to Robbie Ross, Bobby Reeves, Charlie Mitchell, Mel Hoderlein and Paul Musser.
  22. How can JH be the owner of a team that is going to be SUSTAINABLE year in and year out when he acts in this manner? That's what I don't understand.
  23. He's not even DFA'able. You hold onto him in case you need someone to throw innings down the stretch considering all the injuries that happen to starters. 🫣
