  1. It's not a mistake when you acquire a piece that helps you win a World Series. They didn't need Iggy once Drew was healthy. It was better to move him for a starter.
  2. The 86 team was the best Red Sox team of my childhood. They were pretty good on RBI Baseball too! The 03, 04 and 07 teams were probably better though.
  3. Swihart is good enough and athletic enough that he could transition to another position (i.e. Biggio). Vasquez is what he is, a good defensive catcher that isn't hitting at the moment.
  4. HR on first pitch of the season. I too have the 1987 Topps Record Breaker card.
  5. 1986 was also Rich Gedman's last good year. The rest of his career was derailed due to injuries and ownership collusion.
  6. He can't hit.
  7. I'm embarassed for you right now. These comebacks are pathetic for someone from Brooklyn.
  8. Does a sad trombone follow you everywhere you go?
  9. Wasn't Hurst listed as MVP during the 9th inning of game 6?
  10. I remember being so excited for the Dave Henderson/Spike Owen trade and moving their baseball cards to my Sox binder. The 20 strikeout game! My favorite player having his last great season. Don Baylor getting hit by pitches. Buckner's sweet hightop cleats. The chicken man flicking balls off the monster with ease. Bruce Bleeping Hurst! Oil Can pitched my first 3 visits to Fenway.
  11. Now that would be drama! How many blown saves would he have at Yankee Stadium?!?
  12. If you construct a roster solely of former Mets and Marlins, you're gonna have a bad time.
  13. Which is why Sox/Yanks games are 5 hours long. The Sox have tried to mirror the 90's Yankees since the new ownership took over. Build through the draft, spend money wisely and patience at the plate.
  14. Yeah, it was a big "story", but after his first plate appearance, most people got over it.
  15. I don't think the Damon signing had much of an impact since the Sox won in 04 and Damon had been on multiple teams previously. He was a nice little player, but definitely not of Ortiz's caliber. At that point the rivalry was still a little hot, but had cooled from the 03-04 peak.
  16. The ESPN narrative.
  17. I don't really care about the drama. I agree that if Ortiz donned pinstripes, it would make me sick and my wife would be too upset to watch the game. I'm not a proponent of sending players to the Yanks to manufacture drama. I'd rather the teams just remain competitive. The past 2 years, both teams have struggled and have tanked the rivalry a bit. Having Ells in NY will probably make the average sports fan more likely to pay attention to the first few series. After that, it's up to the teams to stay competitive.
  18. Wouldn't it provide for MORE drama?
  19. The point is that the original question was about the ALCS, but all you could do was bitch about losing to the Mets.
  20. "Maine"
  21. I don't need to read minds, just read the posts that have been written ad nauseam.
  22. Just remember kids, to be a true derpy Sox fan you must forget about every season that didn't end up with a ring. Throw your memories away! 1999 sucked! 2008 was a s***** season, turn the page! Oh, you saw a few regular season walkoffs and had lots of fun being at Fenway? Doesn't matter! Those seasons were horrible and you shouldn't have enjoyed them you dummy!
  23. Plus, the biggest revenue teams haven't been dominating the WS lately. I read that the average payroll of WS entrants has been about 11th place. This is hardly the biggest issue in MLB.
  24. ^ miserable and unhappy person response
  25. Idk. Fred even said, if he were a Sox fan it would mean nothing to him, but his retort is "well I wasn't a fan." I just like that this post asked a specific question about the ALCS and only had about 3 real responses to it.
