The future ramification of Pablo starting and tanking for 2 months is Farrell potentially losing his job and the Sox falling so far behind that they wind up in last place again.

Craig is not taking up space. He's helping to pick up bar tabs for the AAA guys. He's not in the way of anyone.

Plus, Pablo was given a fair chance. He was given all of last year and he ending up being a -2 WAR player and the worst fulltime positional player in the bigs.

None of us here think we're keyboard warriors. As others have said numerous times, we just talk as if we're shooting the s*** at the bar before a game. 99.9% of the time the posts aren't personal and it's not meant to be taken seriously.

Every sportswriter in the world writes for the audience. Shaughnessy writes to get his audience riled up. McAdam, Abraham, et al write to give the audience perspective on what is going on in the clubhouse. Gammons writes to get his audience more informed about the on-field product. If a writer wrote just to amuse himself, he'd probably be out of job really quick.

Of those 5, realistically only Moncada and Beninturdi should be shagging fly balls. We'll need a 1b and 3b next year, so moving Shaw and Travis around is a waste. Swihart still needs to be kept at C until it's determined that Vazquez is the guy.

I don't think they'd do that. They'd be SOL if an OF got injured and would have too much IF redundancy. They need to have at least 5 people on the roster (excluding Shaw) that can play OF. If they demoted Castillo, they'd only have 4.

Beninturdi will be in the OF in 2 years (maybe sooner). Holt and a platoon can get by for that long.

Imo, we aren't clogged and have shown no issues with being clogged. There is no guy on the AAA roster that is blocked that would be on the opening day roster otherwise. David Murphy was let go because they don't want 5 OFers who can't play any IF. It's a waste of a roster spot. Honestly, the difference between Castillo and Murphy at this point is very slim. Being willing to put anyone on the bench no matter the salary will prevent them from any clogging issues. We're not clogged in the rotation. We're not clogged in the bullpen. Where's the clog?

He signed with the Mets for 5.75M this offseason. Murphy was brought in for $2M if he made the team.

Considering the rotation and bullpen question marks, it's not indefensible to use an extra slot on an arm.

Whether he was on the field or not, they saw his work ethic, how he performed in practice, etc.

I'd eat 75% of the contract, but wouldn't give up any valuable prospects.

Also, teams that start the season with a lot of question marks (3b, LF, C, Carson Smith, Koji, Porcello, Kelly, ERod) don't typically run the table over the course of a season.

It's a surprise because they were in last place the previous 2 years. They aren't favorites to make the playoffs.

DUMBrowski took over the team last year, watched them day in and day out and decided the only way to fix the mess was blow it up. Castillo and Pablo are both done in Boston. I wonder what he thinks about the long term prospects of Porcello. The bullpen stunk last year and DUMBrowski did some work to fix that in the offseason. He still needs to remake the starting rotation, but that's harder to do than add in bullpen arms.
