  1. The Trey Ball pick at #7 looks pretty bad right now. When you haven't picked that high in 20 years, you need to nail that pick.
  2. When Ben was the GM: they refused to resign Lester they traded Lester away they traded Lackey away for nothing they signed Pablo and Hanley at the same time when they only needed one of them He's front and center for the terrible 2014 and 2015 seasons. He can have all the credit for 2013, but he should take all the blame for the following 2 years.
  3. Pedroia and Papi love to argue with the umps, so maybe he'd fit in well here? I think a lot of the clubhouse issues for the Jays are due to their manager. He seems like a pretty big dip s***.
  4. The 2012 Sox weren't in last place until they traded half their roster. Under Ben's watch, he had a full roster that tanked for two straight years, which hadn't happened in modern Sox history.
  5. That's how I feel too. Need to give the GM a few years before you can right him off.
  6. So maybe the Sox shouldn't have been the odds on favorite to get to the WS this year?
  7. MN unload the guys they didn't want during the season. No one will trade with SD this offseason. Do the Sox really want Votto from CIN? I don't see them moving any of their young arms. There aren't too many guys on ATL that I'd be interested in. Adonis Garcia for 3b? TB won't trade within the division. Sonny Gray is toast and the A's roster is meager at best. With all the changes in the front, I don't see AZ dumping many players. Though maybe they would be inclined to grab some Sox prospects that they are fond of? Could have inner track on this one. PHI has some great young arms, but I don't see them moving them at all. Would MIL want to sell high on Hernan Perez? He would be good IF depth. Does Zach Davies have a lot of upside? LAA only has Trout. COL has some great bats, but not at the position we would need. This team is on the upswing and I don't think they'd trade any young guys. CWS has two aces that we'll talk about all winter. PTT has some intriguing pieces like Kang. I think they still see themselves as being in a window to win now with McCutchen. Does MIA want to move Stanton? Would Sox want that contract at DH? KC has some great arms, but I'm not sold on them dumping what brought them a title.
  8. He's going to be given every possible chance to play that position until he's no longer on the roster.
  9. Who are you speaking of? Fielder? Strawberry? Chili Davis? Justice? Sierra? Those are the guys I think of as DHing during the dynasty years. Nick Johnson (2002 - 2003) and Shane Spencer (also used Canseco, Leyritz and Glenallen Hill during 2000) had far less time at DH than any of those guys.
  10. Also, having Young as a RHH DH means that he can spell Mookie and JBJ in the OF when needed while still getting a ton of AB's to stay fresh.
  11. If he's on the roster after ST, he'll be the opening day 3b. That's what I'm penciling him in for. His contract and tenure is what is keeping him as a big league third baseman. Otherwise, he'd be starting out in AAA. He COULD be good next year. We won't have any idea until February though.
  12. It's been a good time to be a Sox fan since 1901. FTFY. The Sox have been a solid team for the most part since 67.
  13. I'd rather Logan than Abad.
  14. Cespedes is opting out. Any interest?
  15. People have always left. People left while Theo was here. If you have good staff, they aren't going to stick around forever because there will always be a logjam at the top (not everyone can be GM). As long as their younger replacements are sufficient, we shouldn't worry too much.
  16. They are not going to sign Buchholz just to trade him away before the season starts.
  17. I don't see how they'd be able to dump Pablo at this point unless they are picking up 90% of the contract. At his best, Pablo is the best option at 3b. We just don't know if he'll every get there again.
  18. You should keep your fingers that he gets just good enough to opt out then.
  19. Also had a lot to do with Sale's s***** attitude.
  20. Welcome.
  21. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/10/red-sox-promote-eddie-romero-to-agm-wont-hire-general-manager.html Eddie Romero has been promoted to AGM. Boston will not hire a single general manager to work under president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, at least at this time, the club also added. Instead, Romero and fellow AGM Brian O’Halloran will combine to take the top two roles beneath Dombrowski in the organization’s baseball ops hierarchy.
  22. @alexspeier Indeed, multiple major league sources expect that the Sox aren't going to hire a GM.
  23. Yup, Cleveland's GM had no say in building the starting rotation or pitching staff!!!!
  24. I can fault Farrell for a lot of things throughout the year, but I think he was fine during the playoffs. The bats went silent and the starting pitching was bad. Even a great manager wouldn't have overcome that.
  25. There's a really good chance that if they retained Iggy, that they wouldn't have signed Moncada.
