  1. http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/qualifying-offer Three tiers of Draft pick forfeiture -- which are based on the financial status of the signing team -- are in place to serve as a penalty for signing a player who rejected a qualifying offer: • A team that exceeded the luxury tax in the preceding season will lose its second- and fifth-highest selections in the following year's Draft as well $1 million from its international bonus pool. If such a team signs multiple qualifying offer free agents, it will forfeit its third- and sixth-highest remaining picks as well. Examples: A team with one pick in each round of the 2018 Rule 4 Draft would lose its second- and fifth-round picks. A team with two first-round picks and one pick in each subsequent round would lose its second-highest first-round pick and its fourth-round pick. • A team that receives revenue sharing will lose its third-highest selection in the following year's Draft. If it signs two such players, it will also forfeit its fourth-highest remaining pick. Examples: A team with one pick in each round of the 2018 Rule 4 Draft would lose its third-round pick. A team with two first-round picks and one pick in each subsequent round would lose its second-round pick. • A team that neither exceeded the luxury tax in the preceding season nor receives revenue sharing will lose its second-highest selection in the following year's Draft as well as $500,000 from its international bonus pool. If it signs two such players, it will also forfeit its third-highest remaining pick.
  2. Napoli's 2018 option was declined.
  3. QO's for Cain, Santana, Moustakas, Hosmer and Cobb.
  4. No QO for Cozart
  5. http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2017/11/06/the-veterans-committee-modern-baseball-hall-of-fame-ballot-is-out/ Modern Baseball Era Committee has released the 10 names they are considering: Steve Garvey Tommy John Don Mattingly Marvin Miller Jack Morris Dale Murphy Dave Parker Ted Simmons Luis Tiant Alan Trammell Trammell deserves to be in. Marvin Miller, the long time MLBPA Executive Director, probably should be in. Maybe Tiant? I don't think any of the other guys are really deserving. The fact that Bobby Grich and Lou Whitaker isn't on this list is a travesty. They are far more deserving than Parker, Murphy, Morris, Mattingly or Garvey.
  6. @redsoxstats Houston had 55 first pitch homers and 62 2B+3B. Sox 17 and 34. Best and worst in MLB.
  7. @redsoxstats Cora just talked about hunting first pitches to do damage with. Might have mentioned that a time or ten this year. SWOOOOON
  8. The US treats PR like a colony. I'm not surprised when Puerto Ricans feel like outsiders.
  9. And Benny screwed the pooch by f***ing around with the international FA rules which caused the Sox to lose 2 years worth of guys. It's kind of a big deal.
  10. @SPChrisHatfield Last week, D. Marrero and S. Travis left Dominican winter lg due to injury. Now, not sure why, but Blake Swihart not active this week.
  11. @PeteAbe Red Sox stayed under the MLB luxury tax in 2017, resetting the penalties. “No,” said Dombrowski when asked if they would stay under again
  12. 2012 bad draft 2013 bad draft 2014 good draft 2015 bad draft
  13. So, 2 legit major leaguers and a whole lot of blah? Ok.
  14. And all I said was that Moncada has a high k rate and sucks defensively. Not sure what the problem is.
  15. So your argument is that he's better than two s***** players? That's some high praise!
  16. No, Ben just didn't add a lick to Theo's farm which left the Sox in a bad position.
  17. So 4 more important issues, but the Devers defense issue is still not minor? This team must be really hurting right now.
  18. The SoxProspects podcast is funded by the Russian oligarchy! Sad!
  19. 32% k rate. That's mid 80's Rob Deer. Plus bad defense! Not a good combo IMO.
  20. Poor drafts plus international signing restrictions are a bigger problem than trading away lottery tickets.
  21. Sure, but I think saying "his growing curve could seriously damage our ring hopes" is a bit much. It's a fairly minor issue.
  22. The media story was overblown for sure. However, I think stuff like that really impacts the clubhouse and these guys need to get along if they are going to be around each other every day for 9 straight months.
  23. I think stupid s*** like the Eck controversy or Pedey not standing up to Machado would be more negative for a team than 3b defense.
  24. 3B defense is probably not the biggest hindrance this team will face. Starting pitching health is probably my biggest concern with overall slumping offense right behind it.
  25. The best IF coach is usually with the MLB team. No reason to put him down in Pawtucket unless he's a complete trainwreck who also can't hit. He's fine as a 3B right now.
