  1. MLB Pipeline has a good writeup and some video of Valera's start: https://www.mlb.com/news/red-sox-prospect-juan-valera-career-high-nine-strikeouts?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage
  2. I think the worry is he has a high hard hit % and it's pulled (53.5%). Probably need to see him do it in the warmer weather when the bats heat up before we can believe in his arm.
  3. Wikelman was a wish and a prayer. Valera looks like he's finally putting it together.
  4. Other teams just don't value Duran as highly as the Sox team. It's pretty obvious at this point.
  5. Valera was actually dominant last night. 5IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 9 K, 56 P, 39 S
  6. A good sign for Neely. If he was healthy, he'd be much further along than sitting in Salem.
  7. Seems like they'll have to add a rule.
  8. It would have had to be and absolute haul of Mayer plus Dobbins, Fitts, Fajardo, etc. (guys already traded away during the offseason if they weren't going to trade Tolle/Early).
  9. Most people were very excited about SEA's offseason too... 🤔
  10. Fitts, Clarke and Galle If the Sox are really competing the year, the deal makes sense. Fitts is a back of the rotation guy at best and didn't take to the org's dev program. Clarke was injured most of last season, but popped in prospect lists. He's even more injured now so maybe they got the most value any team could ever get out of him. Galle? Who cares?
  11. Ah, but they added Watson (Rule 5), Coloumbe (1M due to injury) and Kahnle (MiLB deal)! The big acquisition is going to be Tayron Freakin Guerrero.
  12. It's the only reason people got excited about Zach Neto for a hot minute. That had ZERO chance of happening. Now we get to hear "well, they could have had Neto." No, they couldn't! There was no chance of them getting Neto at that point in the offseason.
  13. I'm not wrong. Jen saying "the Astros WOULD want Duran for Paredes" is meaningless. That internal Sox sources said the Astros didn't want Duran for Paredes straight up (per Jared Carrabis after the Durbin trade) has much more meaning. Duran is so great. Everyone wants him! Sox just aren't able to trade him for some reason. Now he'll languish on the bench because he can't find an AB in 2 out of 3 games against the Brewers in April.
  14. Gray is realistically only going to be here for one season. He'll slow down at some point, just need him to get through '26.
  15. Valera is throwing again. We'll see if he gives up another dominant 2 ER in 3.1.
  16. A kangaroo watched the Greenville Drive last night.
  17. Sale is going to continue to get injured going forward. It's why he may not be a HOF guy.
  18. After they traded for Durbin, it didn't matter anymore. A lot of the offseason chatter was more about generating clicks on stories than the likelihood of a deal actually getting done.
  19. Paredes is a better 2b than Rafaela. Rafaela is a better CF than Paredes is a 2b.
  20. Take Jen for what she's worth then, because Paredes would NOT have been a one year rental if he was traded for. Sox would have control of him through 2027. If she doesn't even know the basic facts, how would she know how the Astros would evaluate Duran or what the Astros were asking for. When I'm saying the Astros WANTED Abreu and not Duran, it's with the hindsight of 20/20 and what we heard after the Durbin signing. There were conflicting and mixed reports prior to then. Some radio shows saying the Astros were prepared to deal multiple players for Duran (laughable). A day later, another Houston guy said Duran wasn't involved in any trade negotiations at the time. What we know now is that they asked for Abreu and the Sox said no. Sox countered with Duran and Houston couldn't figure it out as they weren't inclined to move Paredes in a deal for Duran.
  21. Maybe? Hard to be patient if the track record is "gets injured every year."
