    Some others would even say that Agganis was one of the greatest players to come through the system. I think it's hard to really judge players that don't have long careers.

    I'm sorry that it hurts you so much that I talk negatively about Henry. I realize this is personal for you. I think he's being an idiot for not signing him to a deal. Clearly 12/420 was an opening bid. The Sox were at 10/300. I think that if the Sox really wanted to sign Betts, they would have figured out where to meet in the middle.

    Is Duran a high enough prospect to bring back a starter even in a package? I'm not really high on him. Seems like we'd be better able to move current major league talent for younger cost controlled players (i.e. the Miller for ERod trade).

    Non sequitur conversation stopper. If I ask a question, it's just a question. I'm not inferring that anyone believes that. I just assumed that someone could reasonably make the case that choosing not to retain Mookie was not to save ownership money, but for some other purpose. Does payroll flexibility today help the Red Sox down the line? Nobody knows. I'd just rather put all my eggs into the basket of one of the 3 best players in the game. Interesting that this position gets people hot and bothered.

    I just want them to retain the greatest positional player they've developed since Ted Williams. That's all I'm asking.

    If you want to trade him, you better hope he has a torrid start to the season (which is hard to do in Portland depending on weather). I'm fine with moving any player they have. Starting pitching depth is embarrassing for this org right now. Aside from Mata and Ward, are there any other pitchers that could potentially ever contribute as starters? Does Groome even make the majors?

    The beef is that they let the best positional player since Yaz walk out that door just to save money. I'll never agree with that logic. I care about the product on the field.

    A reminder that I'm the one stifling conversation here. I have not moved any goal posts. Yes, I'll will find stuff to say to back up my opinion as will people that think Mookie shouldn't be signed. That's what everyone does. I've consistently said that they can and should pay Mookie. Anyone else is fine to disagree with that. It doesn't bother me. It seems to bother other people when I say that ownership should spend the money rather than putting it in their pockets. I wonder why?

    Non sequitur. I don't know anyone that called him cheap. He's just getting under the lux tax this year to save himself money. He's not the Pittsburgh Pirates owner. Nobody every claimed that he doesn't spend because he's "cheap."

    @JMastrodonato Ron Roenicke said after the Red Sox pitchers had a slow start last year, the goal is for all starters to make six starts this spring. Big change from a year ago. The nerve of this man!

    @joonlee Chris Sale has been dealing with the flu that turned into a mild case of pneumonia during the last week and a half. Roenicke talked to him on the phone today, and said “he feels really good.” Sale will be re-evaluated on Friday.

    In 2012, it's because he intervened and hand picked BV. In 2014, it's just a WS hangover. In 2015, it's because they listened to Werner or whoever and decided that Panda and HanRam were needed for fan interest. Yuck. I'll give him a pass for 2014.

    And most last place finishes as well. It's been quite the crazy roller coaster with this ownership. I think that's why everyone that still follows the Sox like we do get emotional about it.

    My guess is that they are going to need a few guys to come in throughout the year. IMO, the competition doesn't end on April 1.
