  1. Because every agent in MLB wouldn't waste time negotiating with them going forward. To freeze out the other side completely is a bad look.
  2. Since DD left in 2019: Yankees; 494 - 376, 6 playoff appearances, 2 ALE titles Red Sox: 442 - 428, 2 playoff appearances, 0 ALE titles Evil Empire is currently kicking our ass.
  3. Larry stepped down in 2015. DD took over and was kicked out in 2019. Since then, the Sox have been wandering in the wilderness.
  4. Werner was the guy who said "full throttle." While they trot him out for the cameras, he's not a guy with any insider knowledge and hasn't been for years. He had to walk back the comment a day later after being spoken to.
  5. He's signaling to the league that he's not staying with the Tigers and that he's going to want to get PAID. 10/375? 11/400? Sox will get aggressive and offer 8/300 and get outbid by 6 other teams.
  6. The problem even with that whole issue is that Werner said "full throttle" and he doesn't have the final say. Werner probably wants to spend more than Henry does. Werner wants the tv stars. Werner wants the ratings. Werner wants the FA signings. Henry is more the guy that we see at the end of Moneyball no matter how truthy it is or not. We all know in our hearts, the bottom line is more important to Henry than the rings at this point. Back when he first bought the Red Sox, he was convinced otherwise. He needs a guy like Lucchino or Dombrowski who can convince him to spend. Instead, he's surrounding himself with yes men.
  7. I'd rather they signed him than passed, but I also understand if they are setting a contract limit that they won't exceed on him. I'd rather they overextend on a Bregman contract than overpay on a Marte trade. There are no good options next year via FA for IFers IMO.
  8. "Deserves" doesn't really mean anything to me TBH. I'm just guessing at what the Sox offered. Like I said, I don't believe they went 6/170.
  9. Why? Juan Soto, $31M (2024) Shohei Ohtani, $30M (2023) Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. $28.5M (2025) Mookie Betts, $27M (2020) Nolan Arenado, $26M (2019) Josh Donaldson, $23M (2018) Juan Soto, $23M (2023) Bryce Harper, $21.625M (2018) Francisco Lindor, $21.3 (2021) Pete Alonso, $20.5M (2024)
  10. I think that's why they've used the terms like "aggressive" rather than leaking actual numbers. If he signs elsewhere, plan B better B good.
  11. If I had to guess, it's more like 5/140 (Tigers offer last year less 2025 season, in effect the Sox paying him 6/ 180).
  12. I don't believe it's a high value short term deal like that.
  13. I think Bellinger likes the AAV, but wants more years.
  14. https://soxprospects.com/payroll.htm
  15. If they were that good, he would have signed.
  16. I don't believe there are many suitors out there. I also don't believe the 6/170 rumors. That amount is most likely higher than what the Sox offered.
  17. Not as his age he wouldn't. His production per year isn't worth it either. He just doesn't have the Soto/Ohtani ceiling.
  18. That's not what mission creep is. Not the definition at all. They are a baseball team. They should acquire FAs. If mission creep is acquiring FAs then they need new ownership.
  19. Breggie is a good clubhouse guy. He's like another coach on the field. See how he is on the bench with Roman showing him an ipad with Brawl Starts on it?
  20. Per Cots 2019 CBT 1 206M, CBT 2 226M, CBT 3 246 M Sox Payroll: 243M, 13M in tax paid
  21. I'm believing the Sox Payroll guy a lot more than I'm believing Cots. There are also other players that the Sox want to sign (left handed reliever) and moves they'll want to make during the season that will increase the payroll. Getting it to 260 for the Bregman signing and not dumping anyone else, almost assures them that they go over the 2nd threshold or are not signing anyone else and aren't making a splash at the trade deadline.
  22. He's a good, not great player. Many people thought his power numbers would skyrocket hitting at Fenway in 2025 when they daydreamed about him in a Sox jersey. They didn't. His home splits were terrible. Honestly, the same thing would happen if they brought Bo here in 2025. He might put up good away numbers, but the Fenway numbers would be bleak.
  23. Yeah, they took so many high profile team leaders!
