  1. Thank you for your service.
  2. I should have kept the boomer joke that I put into the previous post. It was a real zinger. 1. Majority of NESN viewers are boomers. 2. Boomers will watch no matter what. This is the baseline of viewership that won't go away. 3. Most younger fans have tuned out and will continue to do so for a myriad of reasons including how slow and boring modern baseball is. I know several boomers who pat themselves on the back for watching every single pitch during a season. I know of zero people under 50 that would even think of saying that. Baseball is an old, dying sport. Kids no longer care about playing baseball they way they did decades ago. Right now, baseball is good for boomers with excess income that can afford expensive season tickets and corporate sales guys that want to treat their clients to a night out. Once there is a mass extinction of boomers, baseball will be a niche sport.
  3. And the year after that.
  4. I think they got their one big contract and aren't going to add another.
  5. Padres can't afford it. The other teams probably could, but I think Mookie is worth more to the Sox than to other teams just from a marketing perspective.
  6. IMO, he will never opt out. The market isn't there to pay a DH that much money. There is too great of a risk that he goes to FA and gets less $$$.
  7. I'd rather Mookie than Dempster/Gomes/Napoli.
  8. I just fainted.
  9. It's the difference between a 4th round pick and whatever the prospect return is. I'd hope the Sox could get some guys better than a 4th round lottery pick.
  10. That remains to be seen. I think one or two young guys coming up and being exciting will make people tune in (like when Chavis was on fire after call up last year).
  11. Well, this cheered me up. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2020-zips-projections-seattle-mariners/ The 2020 Mariners are a bit like going to a failing mall. There are still some stores you remember scattered about, though the logos appear to be from another era. The fountain’s dry, and the shops mainly sell sunglasses. There’s an ear-piercing kiosk manned by a guy who looks like he missed the carnival employee bus and decided to move into the abandoned Caldor instead. Yes, this will all be hit by a wreckering ball and give way to a new open-air shopping district with a Kelenic’s Grille in a few years, but for now, you wander into the food court and feel your childhood memories being wiped out by the collective reek of old cinnamon, cigarettes, and shame.
  12. This is the way.
  13. I agree, but it's the reality we live in. That's why we're all discussing what a return for Mookie should be.
  14. At 7pm at night? Not likely. That's an issue with weekend games.
  15. I was making a Greek food joke. Sorry.
  16. I rate this: 3 Pinocchio noses!
  17. I don't want to have to remember how to spell that.
  18. Yeah, they'd have to do that since THEY HAVE NO LEVERAGE IN TRADE NEGOTIATIONS BECAUSE THEY WANT TO CUT SALARY TO GET UNDER THE LUX TAX. Why even wait for a good trade?!?!?!?!?!?
  19. The people who still watch will always watch since there is nothing on tv in the summer anyway.
  20. I think SD is under much more of a payroll constraint than we understand.
  21. Note to self: remember to never listen to Bob Nightengale. You already learned this a long time ago, idiot. @Chandler_Rome Two sources with knowledge of the situation say there's no confirmation that the Astros will hire Dusty Baker as their manager. @BNightengale reports Houston will choose Baker, the three-time Manager of the Year winner who has won more than 1,800 games
