  1. ERod pitched 200 innings as a 26 year old two years ago. He was out last year, but it had nothing to do with his arm. He'll be fine.
  2. @PeteAbe Jackie Bradley Jr. is "definitely on our radar" according to #RedSox GM Brian O'Halloran.
  3. I don't see any other team getting close to giving him 18/year. I don't know if it's the fault of the suburban hippies who squat in the Haight for the summer or a techbro-pocalypse, but something went very wrong for that FO to make that decision.
  4. Also also, MLB is stating not to expect universal DH in 2021. Lame.
  5. Sean McAdam posited that the Sox should go after Japanese pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdag4BcoeiM Also, Ha Seong Kim was just posted.
  6. https://www.overthemonster.com/2020/12/7/22158275/boston-red-sox-roster-bullpen-structure-needs-matt-barnes-ryan-brasier-darwinzon-hernandez-taylor?utm_campaign=overthemonster&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter A look at the current pen: Barnes Brasier Hernandez Taylor Valdez Brewer Brice Springs I think Mazza belongs in that group if the roster sticks at 26. They should consider finding better options than Brewer/Brice/Springs.
  7. Too much purple bud IMO. Tough to resist when you're walking down Haight.
  8. @redsoxstats Fangraphs has the 2021 Red Sox projected at 10th in WAR from position players, 16th from starting pitchers, and 16th the bullpen. 14th in overall projected WAR for 2021. There is about 130 WAR available on the free agent market. Sox are in good position to climb considerably. Smart offseason signings can get this team to 88 wins easy without long term implications. Erase the bad contracts and stay competitive. I trust Bloom 100% right now.
  9. I believe Stroman and Gausman were both given QO's because the teams figured they'd be declined. They were looking for a comp pick and it didn't work out.
  10. Still a no. In this market, 15M for the next 4 years for him seems high. Plus, you'd have to be giving something up in return. They wouldn't do a Chavis for Wheeler and $20M deal.
  11. They have Seabold and Mata who could both come up at some point. 2020 was dreadful, but better bullpen construction and rebound seasons from Beni and JD could fix that.
  12. And they could sign nobody and contend with a rotation of: Sale ERod Eovaldi Houck Pivetta
  13. Leaning heavily on that FIP. I think Porcello is a better pitcher, I just think Perez will be much cheaper. If Porcello signed for 1/7.5M I'd be into it.
  14. He'll be cheap. He liked playing here. He was durable.
  15. He was a better defender 4 years ago. He's just OLD. Maybe he's not Gary Gaetti 2000 old, but he's closer to the golf course than to CF.
  16. He's good, but not worth 20M IMO.
  17. Here's the available CFers: Albert Almora CF Jackie Bradley Jr. CF David Dahl CF / LF / RF Delino DeShields Jr. CF Jarrod Dyson CF Brett Gardner CF / LF Brian Goodwin CF / LF Billy Hamilton CF Jon Jay CF / LF Jake Marisnick CF Haruki Nishikawa CF Kevin Pillar CF / RF Danny Santana CF / 1B George Springer CF / RF Bubba Starling CF Michael Taylor CF - (ED: oops signed with Royals) Obviously, you wouldn't sign Dahl to be the CFer, so you'd have to move Verdugo to CF. The only way they bring Dahl in is if they move Beni and Dahl plays LF. That doesn't really solve the CF issue. Pillar or Gardner may be the best economical short term options if you just need a bridge to Duran.
  18. If Puig could play CF, I'd think about it.
  19. Keep Mazza in where? I think he should be the 6th guy (long reliever) on Opening Day. He's an emergency starter in my mind. If they sign Lester and Perez, he doesn't start in my rotation very often if at all.
  20. McCutchen was a minus defender in LF last year. The roster would have Beni/JD/Cutch all who are minus defenders IMO. Tough to do that. They really just need a glove first CFer, like a JBJ type.
  21. ERod says he's healthy, so I don't really think we need 4. Even then, 3 may be a little overkill.
  22. Right now, the starters in April are: ERod Eovaldi Houck Pivetta Mazza I think Seabold gives them a little depth and we'll probably see Mata at some point this year. They will probably still sign another SP or two, so I'm not super concerned at the moment. Of the 55 SP free agents and QO's, only 8 have signed. I think they should re-sign Perez and Lester on one year deals. They will be able to throw a lot of innings and shouldn't break the bank. My Opening Day rotation would be: Lester (have him pitch home opener) Eovaldi Perez Pivetta Houck ERod can ease his way back into the rotation and you can cycle Pivetta and Houck out once Sale is ready.
  23. There just has to be major injury concerns/question marks when 3 of your top starters are Eovaldi, Price and Sale. Maybe Price is finally past that? IDK. Sale and Eovaldi will be annual question marks here on out. It's more of a problem with roster creation than lineup creation. That falls on the gm, not the manager.
