  1. I think moving Mata right now is a pretty dumb play. It would make more sense to move Houck as his stock may never be higher. I don't think this is the year to put all your chips in though.
  2. It's good to outbid other teams if the right players are on the market. This FA market is kinda s*****.
  3. That's definitely some kind of writing. TalkSox does have a little history with Dodgers fans, but it's far too early to say who won/lost the trade. Dodgers had spent the past few years crying about losing in the playoffs, now they are riding high. The Dodgers will have their own piper to pay in a few years. If they only get one title out of the deal, it was probably worth it for them. For the Sox, it was what it was. They didn't want to re-sign him. They got a decent return out of it. I'm not happy with the move, but it's the move that the boss wanted.
  4. @ChrisCotillo Hart lost nearly 20 lbs., didn't have the energy to train between starts and even had memory lapses while pitching as his symptoms lingered.
  5. At least MadBum has a rodeo career waiting for him.
  6. Well, we know he's a better hitter than a dirt bike rider.
  7. @ChrisCotillo Hart said Lyme caused a mental haze at times: “I couldn’t remember some of the pitches I was throwing the inning before. I remember one time, Vlad Jr. came up and I couldn’t remember the sequence I threw him the last at-bat. That’s not good for somebody like me.”
  8. We already know Kiermaier comes with gold glove defense and can hit passably. We don't know that about Nishikawa.
  9. It's dumb point blank. No reason to put your starter at further risk of injury.
  10. Kiermaier is acceptable. I just think Nishikawa would hit like .610. Not into that.
  11. Look, we can't have Bumgarner hit in lieu of this guy! I want a glove first CFer who isn't an automatic out. It's why I'm not clamoring for a guy like Billy Hamilton.
  12. Why would you DH for a guy with a better OPS? Bumgarner hits worse than the backups they have at C and 2B.
  13. That doesn't make it right. There are hundreds of pitchers that can't hit for every guy like Bumgarner that can hit (k's 38% of the time, career OBP of .228).
  14. Same as a pitcher swinging the bat. "Just don't hit me. Just don't hit me."
  15. He might have a good glove, but he'll k about 150 times this year with no power to back it up. Also like 5 years older than Kim. Not really interested.
  16. A very good comparison. It's like when a punter slightly mishandles the ball and has no idea what to do next.
  17. @ChrisCotillo Hart on being outrighted off the 40-man: "I was pissed off, but very understanding. I have nothing to defend. I have 9 or 10 innings, and they were pretty much all s***. Chaim and the front office have to make decisions that are best for the organization."
  18. I think the idea is that a team loses their DH once their starter is pulled, not that the opposing team loses a DH when your team pulls the starter.
  19. Hockey has been greatly improved with high def wide screen tvs. Watching on little tv's back in the 80's was brutal. I think watching hockey on tv is more fun than watching any other sport.
  20. Sign Sugaono, Kim and Arihara and be done with it. Cora emphasized that it’s unfair to any player to speak as though he has a defined role now, with months of offseason transactions still to come, but he also praised the manner in which Barnes handled ninth-inning duties in 2020. “If the season starts tomorrow and we have the lead in the ninth inning and we haven’t used Matt in the seventh or eighth, I flip him the ball and I believe he can get the three outs and get us to the next day,” Cora said before going on to call Barnes one of the game’s best relievers over the past few seasons. Some may raise an eyebrow at that description, given Barnes’ 3.83 ERA since 2017. It’s worth noting, though, that of the 232 pitchers with 200-plus innings thrown over the past four seasons, only six have struck out a higher percentage of opposing batters than Barnes (34.1 percent), and only 22 have a lower FIP than Barnes’ 3.30.
  21. I can get to excited about ZIPS projections. It's not like ZIPS predicted the bottom to fall out for JD or Beni last year.
  22. Let the NL mess around with that for a while. The sky didn't fall in the NL when they used the DH this year. They should just use it going forward. Only masochists want to watch pitchers hit.
  23. Pass.
  24. Love to pull David Ortiz in the 5th inning. Horrible.
