  1. Free Agents. Internal options. Deadline deals for talent that can help in 2022 and beyond. Wait until next offseason when better SPs are available.
  2. I don't see any big splashes coming this offseason.
  3. I'm not sure they even need a big name. Just add 2 adequate starters and a few more professional relief arms. Can even go cheap at CF and 2b.
  4. Pass. Sox need to use 2021 to see if any of their prospects can make the next jump. If they want financial flexibility, they need to be better about hoarding prospects and knowing when to move on from one.
  5. @jay_jaffe such a shame that the economics of baseball make it so that a small market team like the Chicago Cubs has to trade their best pitcher just so that the billionaire Ricketts family can turn a more handsome profit.
  6. If a durable arm is available now, it doesn't make much sense to only rely on them for 1 year. You always need 4th and 5th starters. These are guys you can move at the deadline as well. If they only offer 1 year deals, they may be behind other bidders.
  7. Of course they want to give the impression that they will compete in 2021. A marketing strategy of "hey, we're just going to look like 2020, but maybe win a few more games" isn't going to sit well with a fanbase.
  8. Rolling towards 40k high quality posts. No filler here!
  9. Hoping for a 3 team trade seems like a fool's errand.
  10. I think the Sox would do better to find more consistent starters. Kluber and Hill both could end up not pitching after April. I guess it fits in with the health questions already surrounding the Sox staff (Sale, ERod, Eovaldi).
  11. The easy thing to say is "Henry is cheap. He doesn't want to spend anymore. This is a second rate ballclub." All the chatter about the Sox already losing the Betts trade and that every single day there is no FA signing is an affront to the fanbase just lacks critical thinking.
  12. I agree with everything except for the trading for a big name SP'er. I don't think that happens until 2022 or 2023.
  13. I think they'll be looming in most every FA transaction this year. They will submit a bunch of under market offers and hope to get a bite.
  14. Ownership just wanted to get under the cap to reset and decided they couldn't afford Mookie (or at least that the terms he was looking for were too restrictive to future spending). They didn't hire Bloom because they don't want to spend going forward. They hired Bloom because they wanted to spend wisely going forward and be able to compete year in and year out rather than doing the first to last rollercoaster that we have seen from 2012 - present.
  15. Had they kept Grullon around, it would lead more credence to them moving on from Vaz. Hard to imagine they go into the year with Wong as the backup.
  16. Most likely.
  17. Just need to rethink the MLB schedule by building in less travel.
  18. Is this a retro post from last offseason?
  19. Don’t care. Xander stays at SS. Semien has played 2b before.
  20. If Semien signed, it’d be for 2b.
  21. @redsoxstats Out of about 90 still available free agent relievers, Andriese's .284 xwOBA in 2020 ranked 25th. Fastballs up, changeups down type. Batters swung at 101 changeups and whiffed 27 times.
  22. @ChrisCotillo Matt Andriese contract details: * $1.85M base salary in 2021 * $3.5 million club option / $250k buyout for 2022 * $2.1 million guaranteed Escalators/incentives based on innings. Deal maxes out if Andriese throws more than 150 innings each year. And monkeys might fly out of my butt.
  23. He's a role player that is better than the vast majority of the dreck they had in the pen last year. I don't think anyone thinks this wins them the offseason. It's a minor move.
  24. And yes, I do know that glove first no bat Catchers grow on trees.
  25. It's always interesting to me when they decide to keep some guys over others. Maybe they figured that having Wong as the 3rd C was good enough? Would he be ready to come up if there was an injury to Vaz or Plawecki?
