  1. Does money at deadline matter or just payroll on April 1?
  2. Globe reporting that Pedroia will announce retirement in the next two weeks.
  3. @redsoxstats Rosenthal shoots down a Benintendi to Philly rumor as highly unlikely, the fit “hardly appears to make sense.” Also says his $6.6M salary should temper any trade return.
  4. Yup. Castillo would be perfect for a team looking for the one guy to put them over the edge. Sox are a few more players away than that.
  5. I think he's more likely to start for WOO than BOS. I think the Sox are more likely to either go with Arroyo or get a capable 2b FA on a short deal.
  6. The warning sign was when his k rate went to 25% in AA after the PED suspension in 2018. Without a SLG above 500, he's useless with that OBP.
  7. Baseball America Top 100 Ranking: @alexspeier Red Sox prospects Triston Casas at 48, Jeter Downs at 71, Bobby Dalbec at 90. Not surprising that nobody jumped up from the Sox system since there weren't any games to scout last year.
  8. If they think Houck can be a legit #4, that's a huge upgrade for the rotation. Remember, the Sox were much better at the end of the year than at the beginning. If they figure out an average rotation (no starts from Webber, Mazza, Brewer, Hart, et al), this team will be ok.
  9. Also, being suspended for PED's in 2018, certainly put his status in question. I'm not sure there were too many people thinking he'd be a long term solution in BOS (even when he started out hot in 2019).
  10. IDK... He was such an afterthought as a prospect due to his injury issues. He almost became #1 prospect by default. Groome had fallen off due to his injuries. Mata/Casas was just too far away. Houck was seen as a reliever. Beeks was just a guy. When a top 10 still includes Josh Ockimey, you knew the farm was in trouble.
  11. Must be his years of control. He's a great pitcher, but that valuation on BTV is out of control.
  12. @JonHeyman Anibal Sanchez will be working out with Julio Teheran, so it’s a 2-for-1 if teams want to get a peek at Anibal, too. Teheran showcase is Tuesday morning in Miami. Both pitchers are free agents. Sox are looking at both players.
  13. I believe they are saying that they are still looking to add to that depth, that they are far from done. They just aren't going to spend all their $ on 2 top tier FAs.
  14. A Red Sox exec is quoted in the Speier piece saying that they understand the anguish fans are going through this offseason. It seems that they are hopeful to sign JBJ/Odorizzi and whatever is left over at 2b.
  15. How is Puig more interesting than Devers/Xander/Dalbec/Verdugo? Puig is not the guy he once was. You don't want to run him out there 162 games.
  16. In Speier's article, he mentioned that the Sox are trying to increase their floor so that they don't get stuck with running Webber out as their #3 again. Bounce back seasons from JD and Beni, plus an average pitching staff would keep this team in the hunt.
  17. We like it because we’re freaks. Regular fans are bored. New fans are uninterested.
  18. Robot umps aren’t the reason fans are less interested right now. 1. Pace 2. Owner Greed (teams that don’t have a normal payroll PITT) 3. Lower % of Kids Playing Past TBall 4. Unable to Attract Urban Viewers 5. Diehard Fans are Mostly 50+ 6. Cost Prohibitive 7. MLB Doesn’t Know How to Promote Stars
  19. Unlimited shifts
  20. Kluber to Yanks
  21. Devers agreed to arb 4.6M
  22. Cotillo: Some more Red Sox notes from this: * Expected to attend Julio Teheran's showcase next week * Relievers on the radar include Hand, Giles, Soria and Doolittle, though not serious yet * In market for a first baseman/someone to provide Dalbec insurance. LHH likely.
