  1. What if he was just the 7th inning guy? Melancon - 7 Ottavino - 8 Barnes - 9 You can flip flop Ottavino and Barnes based on matchups. Maybe even DHern steps up and becomes a force and takes over in the 8th or 9th?
  2. I will always stan the 2010 Red Sox. https://twitter.com/MLBVault/status/1355222146507825153
  3. @PeteAbe Cashman says MLB teams still not sure how many players and staff can be invited to spring training, what the protocols will be, etc. Says MLB/MLBPA are working it out and there's only general guidance to this point. Well, it is almost February. No cause for alarm! This season is not starting on time. No way. Owners want to play less games and then cry poor during the CBA negotiations in the fall/winter.
  4. I agree with you. Maybe we see video of him throwing in May, but that's about it. They could rehab him by having him work out of the pen? IDK.
  5. Logan Allen hasn't shown much in the past 3 years. Dubon seems to be a UTIL guy, not an everyday starter.
  6. I agree that they aren't too far off. Too much stock has been put into 2020 numbers for Beni and JD. Also, this pitching staff should be average rather than bottom 5. A top offense and average pitching gets them into WC contention.
  7. According to WEEI's Rob Bradford, rehabbing starter Chris Sale (elbow) experienced "a setback around the holidays due to neck stiffness." The good news is that Sale has already resumed throwing on flat ground as he continues his long road to recovery from Tommy John surgery, but this neck issue helps to explain why he has not yet gotten on a mound. He had the reconstructive elbow procedure in March and probably won't be an option for the Red Sox rotation until sometime this May. The 31-year-old left-hander is under contract with the Red Sox through 2024.
  8. Sox should have paid that.
  9. If AB becomes fulltime again, they'll need a RF platoon for Renfroe.
  10. Ryun also turns 34 this season. It has to go downhill at some point.
  11. Rowdy seemed to play well whenever I saw him last year.
  12. Jays rotation: Ryu Ray Pearson Roark Stripling Sox rotation: Eovaldi Erod Richards Perez Pivetta (Sale midseason) Aside from Sale, Ryu is the best pitcher listed. However, the Sox rotation has a good chance to be better than the Jays. Either rotation could exceed projections or even just turn to s***.
  13. The only issue was they made a mistake in signing him as a pitcher. In retrospect, they should have just thrown him in the OF. At the time, they signed him for his "athleticism" not because of his pitching. The draft is always a crapshoot. Sometimes they've hedged their bets and went for safe picks like Deven Marrero, but I'd rather them just go for the high upside guys every time.
  14. If they can re-sign JBJ, they'll go over and then grab another decent pitcher or two. If they have to go cheap with Marisnick, maybe they just grab another cheap RP and call it a day?
  15. The Sox rotation should be better than the Jays. Maybe that can push them over the top into 2nd place? I think a 3rd place finish is a reasonable expectation though. I know the Rays tend to bounce back really well, but losing 3 starting pitchers (2 left, 1 injury) is hard to overcome as we all saw last year.
  16. I love original comments like this.
  17. Like Bob Ross would say, "it's not a mistake, just a happy little accident."
  18. And for a 29 year old guy with only 466 innings in MLB and risky health?
  19. I’ll allow it.
  20. Pederson/Renfroe platoon in LF would be dope.
  21. You think it's just going to be Renfroe/Beni in LF? If Dalbec fails, Chavis is called up and Dalbec is sent down.
  22. I agree. Make sure it's a LHB that can play CF and I think the offensive side of the roster is "good enough." I'm not worried about the "LHB off the bench" thing. Just need a guy to platoon with Renfroe.
  23. I'm not sure many teams want to trade a prospect AND take on a 5M contract for a guy who has a 621 OPS since 8/1/20 with poor defense and a feet that move slower and slower every year.
