  1. Pillar only signed a one year deal last year. I don't think he'll get longer than that this time around.
  2. I didn't want to go too crazy with a deal. I tried to make it look like a modest overpay.
  3. Yup, there was no way they were getting out of the lux tax hit.
  4. For example: Boston trades Devers Braves trade Riley (3B), Muller (LHP), Waters (OF) Riley is ready to take over at 3B. Muller would be good starting depth to go along with Mata. Waters could start in CF this year. Is it a package Bloom would like? IDK. But it's the type of deal I could see him making.
  5. Yup. I'd be sad to see him go, but if some team wanted to overpay for him, it's time to go.
  6. https://twitter.com/iJordanMoore/status/1356274851523276800 Pedroia steals second and beats shift by running to third.
  7. @joonlee In 2010, when David Ortiz was hitting .149 and people were calling him washed and that he should retire, Pedroia jumped to his defense "Couple years ago, I had 60 at-bats, I was hitting .170 and everyone was ready to kill me too. What happened?" "Laser Show."
  8. I agree. I think they should shop everyone (at least listen to offers) because you never know when a deal that is too good to be true lands on your desk.
  9. Kiké has a higher career OPS and higher UZR/150 in CF. He's also signed for longer and is younger.
  10. I had never heard the story about Papi not knowing Dustin's first name. That's a good one. Also, I forgot the original reason for him saying "laser show." He was a good teammate, until he wasn't.
  11. @JoeyMacHockey Pedroia used only two gloves his entire big league career. That's 1,512 games with only two mitts.
  12. @pgammo My favorite Dustin Pedroia: We entered back gate to Coor's before 2007 WS G3. I had credential. Pedey did not. Guard wouldn't believe he played. "Why don't you to the locker room," Pedroia replied, "and ask Jeff Francis ?" Pedroia had led off 1st inning, G1,w/ HR off Francis.
  13. @ChrisCotillo To reiterate: Red Sox will pay Pedroia in full in 2021 and his salary will still count against the CBT.
  14. @Sean_McAdam 2B Dustin Pedroia is retiring, will be paid in full on final year of contract. Pedroia will be made available to the media this afternoon. @SPChrisHatfield So based on this, it sounds like what is technically happening is Pedroia is being released, then retiring. Which makes sense.
  15. @ChrisCotillo Pedroia will address the media at 1:30 p.m.
  16. Which is why I think the Sox would need to be bowled over to give up Vaz. He's not expensive and his contract goes through next year. If they really think they can be close to contention this year and then in the hunt next year, why give Vaz away?
  17. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/02/dustin-pedroia-retirement.html Red Sox second baseman and former American League MVP Dustin Pedroia announced his retirement from baseball Monday. The 37-year-old was still under contract for the 2021 season but had managed to play in just nine games over the past three seasons due to a string of devastating knee injuries that required multiple surgeries. “Dustin is so much more than his American League Most Valuable Player award, his All-Star Game selections, and the Gold Gloves he amassed throughout his impressive 17-year career in our organization,” Red Sox owner John Henry said in a press release announcing the move. “Dustin came to represent the kind of grit, passion, and competitive drive that resonates with baseball fans everywhere and especially with Red Sox fans. He played the game he loves in service to our club, its principles and in pursuit of championships. Most of all we are forever grateful to him for what he brought to our club and to our region as an important role model showing all of us how much one can accomplish with determination and hard work.”
  18. Pillar would be brought in to be the 4th OFer in this situation as they would platoon him with Renfroe and start Kiké in CF. If they don't grab a 2b, it'd be Arroyo. I agree that it's likely this happens (or some form) and they only add the OFer above and some leftover reliever.
  19. Big if true.
  20. Pete Abraham said it'd be done by the end of January.
  21. Pedroia isn't retiring?
  22. Good since he started off slow this winter.
  23. Red Sox INTERESTED in Workman reunion.
  24. @jcmccaffrey Billy McMillon returns as Triple-A manager Corey Wimberly is now managing Double-A, had previously managed High-A Iggy Suarez returns to manage High-A (which is now in Greenville) Luke Montz is now managing Single-A Salem, previously had managed Short-Season Lowell
  25. @ChrisCotillo Red Sox announce front office moves. * Ben Crockett promoted to senior VP, baseball operations * Brian Abraham promoted to director of player development
