  1. How dare you speak such inflammatory language!
  2. @alexspeier Impressive, impressive hands from Nick Yorke (Red Sox 2020 1st-rounder) against Braves LHP A.J. Minter. Yorke actually looked like his legs flinched a bit on a Minter slider with two strikes, but still pulled his hands inside the ball to drop a single to RF. Worth noting that last year, after he got to the Alt Site, the 18-year-old Yorke said he'd never really seen 90 mph velo. He took a good mid-count swing (for a foul ball) against a Minter fastball, then hung in for the single. The Sox went away from industry consensus in taking Yorke in the first round. They are absolutely convinced he's got special hitting ability. It'll take years to assess whether they're right, but his first glimpses (last year at Alt Site, now in ST) have impressed.
  3. Yorke is already better than Trey Ball: https://twitter.com/redsoxstats/status/1366479801691815939
  4. Interesting that in Spring Training this year, you're able to roll an inning. "For Spring Training game through Saturday, March 13th, Official Baseball Rule 5.09(e) will be relaxed, allowing defensive managers to end an inning prior to three outs following any completed plate appearance, provided the pitcher has thrown at least 20 pitches." Love when MLB chooses to go with weird little league rules.
  5. Good defense and a good idea of what the k zone looks like. He's definitely a guy that can bounce around for his career at the very least. It raises his floor a bit.
  6. I'd keep all those AAAA guys around. Especially a guy like Walden who did have a pretty decent stretch at one point. Maybe he just flames out and his career ends in WOO this season? Maybe he become serviceable and gets another shot?
  7. Most likely it's nothing. I think with the injury concerns to the rotation, the last thing we'd want to happen is have Xander/Devers/Verdugo get injured.
  8. @JMastrodonato Xander Bogaerts had an MRI on his sore shoulder, per Chaim Bloom. Revealed "nothing concerning, no. All what you would expect. He should be ready (for opening day). Obviously we won’t skip steps with him ... it is a marathon not a sprint ... but we should have the time we need." Xander having a sore shoulder on 3/1 is not great.
  9. @alexspeier Scouts have said that OF Jeisson Rosario's offensive potential is difficult to evaluate because of the infrequency with which he swings. He took all 6 pitches he saw to work a full-count walk in his first spring training AB. His K rates have been OK considering his age and level (just over 20% in A at age-18 and HiA at age-19). His walk rates are insanely high (over 16% in HiA), perhaps the better indicator. But B.B. rates aren’t sustainable across levels without offensive impact.
  10. The Red Sox outrighted Marcus Walden to Triple-A after the right-hander cleared waivers, and Walden is remaining in Boston’s big league spring camp.
  11. @SoxProspects Great catch by Cesar Puello, reaching over the bullpen to take a home run away from top Braves prospect Cristian Pache. Puello is not known for his defense but he just demonstrated how he's capable of playing all three outfield positions adequately. That's why Bloom has kept him around. The mantra of this team is definitely versatility.
  12. This thread would go down on Dave Coulier in a theater. 10/10
  13. Well, sarcasm and irony are 2 completely different things for the most part. Irony: rain on your wedding day, free ride when you've already paid, good advice that you just wouldn't take Sarcasm: rain on your wedding day IS ironic, free rides when you've already paid ARE CERTAINLY ironic too and good advice that isn't taken is LITTERALLY THE MOST IRONIC THING OF ALL TIME and not just some dumb decision the songwriter made because they have cotton balls in their ears and failed a 3rd grade vocabulary lesson that included the word "irony."
  14. And the OF includes Alex Verdugo and a guy who has 25+ bombs each of the previous 3 full seasons. Sure, this OF could use Darren Lewis right now, but it's a stretch of a comparison.
  15. Sometimes your bat just goes flying into the crowd when you're swinging for the fences. Gotta choke up on that bat moom!
  16. I just need to get his off my chest: The new Worcester hats and mascot suck. Both are just horrible. With all of the cool and interesting MiLB logos and mascots, why'd we get stuck with this garbage?
  17. POSTER 1: It was exciting having Pedro in 1998. He made up for that subpar OF. The 2020 staff will not compensate for this OF. POSTER 2: The 1998 Red Sox were 70-59 (.542) in games not started by Pedro. POSTER 3: Those games were so boring. Shame for not making the sarcasm more obvious!
  18. Jeter's oppo shot if you missed it: https://twitter.com/redsoxstats/status/1366429888429903879
  19. He can have the smallest slice of the blame pie.
  20. Also, Mo Vaughn was really great. It's easy to forget how great he actually was since he declined substantially after leaving the Sox. Buford, Stanley, Cummings and Leyritz all had OPS+ above 100. Sox as a whole were: 8th in HR 3rd in RBI 2nd in SLG 5th in OBP 18th in offensive LOB 4th in ERA+ 26th in CG (heavy reliance on bullpen) Was it really bringing in Rich Garces and Jim Corsi that made the games boring? This team hit well, had some stars (Pedro, Nomar, Mo) and didn't give up a lot of runs. Maybe they were just so good they were boring? IDK.
  21. The era of Wakefield and Saberhagen was pretty decent. Maybe it was "boring" but that team was better than you'd expect from just looking at the names. Reggie Jefferson and John Valentin will always be perpetually underrated on here.
  22. Lineup today vs. ATL: Arroyo SS, Gonzalez 2B, Martinez LF, Dalbec 3B, Chavis 1B, Muñoz DH, Puello RF, Rosario CF, Bandy C, Richards P
  23. Red Sox catcher Kevin Plawecki returned to the field today after previously being on the COVID-19 injured list, per Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe (via Twitter). If healthy, Plawecki should have the inside track on backing up Christian Vasquez for the Red Sox this season. A former first round pick of the Mets, Plawecki appeared in 24 games and slashed .341/.393/.463 across 89 plate appearances during his first season with Boston in 2020. And that's it for today's COVID update.
  24. New Red Sox outfielder Franchy Cordero tested positive for the virus and remains in the Dominican Republic, per Alex Speier of the Boston Globe. Cordero was placed on the COVID-19 injured list last week, although it wasn’t known at the time whether that was due to a positive test or mere exposure. The hope is that Cordero will be able to join camp by the middle of next week, per Speier.
