  1. @ChrisCotillo Red Sox should have some roster moves by the end of the day, Cora said.
  2. All set. It still lists the draft as being offline. I'm guess that's just because we haven't discussed a date. The only days I can't typically do are Thursdays.
  3. Same thing with Paplebon. I just remember him struggling if he ever came in with runners on or had to go more than one inning.
  4. Franchy tested positive at intake, so we have no idea when he'll come back. No word about his symptoms.
  5. Will not be on the opening day roster.
  6. It doesn't. You originally noted that he was posting from Naples and that it was close to Ft Myers. It's relation to Ft Myers is only important because that's where he used to play in the winter from 2014 - 2020. The fact that he's there now has no bearing on his interest in signing with the Sox. If he wanted to sign elsewhere, there are a few teams also currently in FL that showed interest. Maybe he's down there in hopes of latching on with another team? Maybe he's down there just to get away from the winter? I don't think it's any indication of his willingness to play for the Sox.
  7. Is he commuting from Naples currently?
  8. Chance that Sawamura isn't available on opening day. Maybe swap him with Houck/Brewer?
  9. Is that not driving distance?
  10. A step up from where we were very recently.
  11. @pgammo While awaiting some idea from Scott Boras on a way to make rookie service time workable for both sides, remembwe Bobby Grich @Rochester , 1970(.383/.503/.570/1.074), 1971(.336/.439/.632/1.071)... Orioles won pennants each year. Mark Belanger&Davey Johnson were SS-2B. Grich played short, with Ron Shelton--Bull Durham, Cobb, etc.--at 2B. If Grich had played 150 G for O's those two years, would he be in the HOF?
  12. Naples is also just a drive away from the Phillies, Mets and Astros who have also been linked to JBJ.
  13. If he did have more value, he would have been moved.
  14. What's JBJ's current offer?
  15. Moreland is currently under contract. JBJ is still unsigned. Maybe Moreland has more value than JBJ?
  16. 1. Blackout rules 2. Service time issues 3. Slow ass replay 4. No DH in NL 5. Luxury tax I'm trying to figure out where I'd put "lack of a payroll floor." Fans of the O's and Pirates seem to get royally screwed.
  17. I just remember that everytime Paplebon was brought in for the 8th inning, it seemed to go very poorly. I think closers want to close. They want the ball for 3 batters and to strike each of them out. They don't want to get up in the 7th.
  18. Are you trying to say that JBJ who has yet to sniff a contract this offseason wasn't a hot commodity at the deadline last year? Inconceivable!
  19. Tekulve is 73. The game that he pitched in doesn't really exist anymore. Eck only had like 25% of his career saves at the point Tekulve retired. Hard to say that his experience as a reliever prior to 1988 has much bearing on what the game looks like now.
  20. Better depth than last year.
  21. I want to say that relief guys can be slotted wherever and come into a any part of the game you need them to, but IMO these guys are creatures of habit. You need to slot them in to certain parts of the game so that they can be mentally ready to do what they do. I think bringing in a "closer" in the 8th and another guy for the 9th due to matchups doesn't work as well in reality as we'd like it to.
  22. Hoping for a discount in 2021?
  23. But the Stros and Mets were seen as bigger suitors. What happened?
  24. Should have nontendered him last year!
