  1. They punted a season that was only 60 games long that fans couldn't attend. The very next year, they were at or near the top of the division for the first third of the season and are still looking like playoff contenders. Many people were saying "if everything breaks right, they'll be an 88 win team." Looks like they are better than that?
  2. Because Tristan Casas is already a fine 1b and he'll be the opening day 1b next year. Moving Devers creates a hole at 3b. Blocking Casas seems like a very odd decision to make. I know you've been pounding the Devers to 1b drum for 4-5 years now, but I think you're wrong here.
  3. Pablo Lopez was supposed to start for Miami, but the Marlins are giving him an extra day of rest. Zach Thompson, recently called up from Triple-A, will make his MLB debut with his start. The Marlins recalled Daniel Castano and optioned Lewis Brinson to Triple-A. Thompson signed a minor-league deal with the Marlins in December after six seasons in the Chicago White Sox system. The 27-year-old righty served as a multi-inning reliever for Jacksonville early in the season, posting a 6.60 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 15.0 IP. Thompson stands 6-foot-7, commands a low-90s cutter well, and also throws a four-seamer and curveball. He made seven appearances this spring for the Marlins and posted a 1.69 ERA over 5.1 IP, allowing just one run. He registered a save and struck out nine. Recalling Castano might indicate a potential piggyback situation considering Thompson’s been exclusively a reliever since 2017. In Jacksonville, Thompson has surrendered four homers, which has inflated his ERA. He’s also picked up 21 strikeouts and allowed only two walks.
  4. Thompson pitched a season high 3 innings last time out. He's been used as a bulk reliever in AAA.
  5. @BallyMarlins Zach Thompson makes his MLB debut on the hill for the Miami Marlins at Fenway Park!
  6. A lot of people weren't believers in this pitching staff at the start of the year. I thought their bullpen could be pretty good (i.e. top 10). I thought the starters would end up average at best.
  7. @MLBNetwork "He's, right now, the best defensive right fielder in the big leagues." @ac13alex on @hunter_renfroe Uh, he's good, but best? In the division I'd probably take Margot.
  8. @jcmccaffrey Colten Brewer cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Worcester
  9. Going against the dreaded TBD. That guy has kinda been overworked this year though.
  10. @J_McPherson1126 #Marlins news: Pablo Lopez is back in Miami & will not start tonight's Red Sox game. He'll start Tuesday vs the Rockies. Told it's not injury related. Just giving Lopez an extra day between starts (which the team said it would do occasionally with starting pitchers this season)
  11. J.D. Martinez (wrist) remains sidelined for Monday's game against the Marlins. Martinez is dealing with a sore wrist and will miss his third straight game, though the good news is that X-rays were negative. As of now, the Red Sox aren't considering a stint on the injured list. Rafael Devers will serve as the DH on Monday while Marwin Gonzalez will play third.
  12. Arroyo 2B, Verdugo LF, Bogaerts SS, Devers DH, Renfroe RF, Gonzalez 3B, Plawecki C, Hernández CF, Dalbec 1B, and Pivetta RHP
  13. Fair enough. I think there's a reason to believe that Casas can continue to hit like this. I don't believe Dalbec will ever hit like 2020 again (42% k rate and 359 OBP are unlikely bedfellows).
  14. Hard to count a 23 game sample IMO.
  15. Devers isn't moving to 1b. He'll move to LF/DH if anywhere.
  16. Casas is the 27th ranked prospect right now. Casas just hit .400 in Olympic qualifiers. He has a 952 OPS as of today. Dalbec hasn't had an OPS higher than that since playing in Lowell. Dalbec will not be on the Red Sox in 2023. He's not a keeper unless his OBP gets to 330.
  17. That's not his "floor" it needs to be his floor if he's to be a "clear keeper." That's the argument I'm making. He'll wind up this season with a OBP
  18. 315 would be the 32nd ranked 1b with 100 at bats. That's kinda garbage. That is by definition not a clear keeper.
  19. The Greenville Drive are scoring 6.5 runs per game and have 6 everyday guys OPS > 800 (3 > 1.000).
  20. If you want him to be a "clear keeper" that's the floor. At .300, it's a guy who is a platoon/bench bat at best.
  21. Joey Gallo is a career 331 OBP guy. That has to be the floor for Dalbec.
  22. Tear it down or just be a mediocre team for the next 4-5 years.
  23. 22nd in OPS, 25th in runs scored... Not a very good team IMO.
  24. @SoxNotes The Red Sox lead the majors with a 2.38 ERA in June. Sox relievers have a 1.59 June ERA. In their 3 games at NYY, they allowed 1 ER and held the Yankees to a .114 AVG (4-for-35). 2021 Reliever ERAs: Whitlock – 1.63 Ottavino – 2.66 Barnes – 2.73 Sawamura – 2.78 Hernandez – 3.00 Nice that Ottavino is coming around a bit.
