    I don't believe Arias is blocked by Mayer as Mayer could 3B/SS and Arias could play SS/2B. Arias won't be ready until late 27 most likely, so there isn't much overlap with Story. If they deal Mayer this offseason, it's one more hole Breslow has to fill and it would probably be with a contract much larger than Mayer's. I think the FO would rather keep Mayer, but who knows.

    The secondaries just need a lot of time to mature. He's only had one year to be a professional and in college he was a one pitch pitcher. If he was in AAA through July, I wouldn't be concerned. Let him get two average secondaries and he'll be fine.

    5 of Ward's HR's were at MiLB stadiums. He had 15 HR's in LAA, but only carried a 666 OPS there (188 BA, 270 OBP, 396 SLG)! Not sure he's going to have a great time in BAL.

    Ward has 6.1 less fWAR than Duran over the past 3 years and is a FA after this season. Duran is a better player and controllable for 3 more years.

    I could see Tolle starting at AAA and Early at MLB, but Tolle being above Early in the depth chart by year end.

    In 2019, they weren't waiting for the next core, they just had a WS hangover. They punted on 2020 after the Mookie trade. They made it to the ALCS in 2021, which is better than mediocre. Last year, the team was better than mediocre. You could argue 3 years of mediocrity maybe? From 22-24, they were in the holding pattern of not knowing if they were a competitive team or a rebuilding team. I think those were the mediocre years.

    The rule is you can't carry more than 13 pitchers. You could carry 10 pitchers and 16 hitters if you wanted.

    I only looked into bb rate once I checked Bernie's statcast. Then I looked at the leader page on FanGraphs and Brezzz cleared the deck of the walk leaders.

    I think he's the guy to go because he has the most value. Per reports, teams were calling about him and Rafaela, more than they were about Abreu. Maybe due to health, maybe not?

    Also, they may not need Duran, but his value is high enough that they could spin him in a separate deal this offseason or at the deadline if they wanted to.

    Once Gray is out of options, he either has value or doesn't. He's either Romy 2.0 or out of the org.

    Bernie was an up and down guy who was out of options. His bb rate got up too high last year (bottom 6th percentile). I think Brezzz is trying to move on from guys who give free passes. Highest bb rates that were still on the 40 man at year end: Guerrero - gone Moran - most likely the next DFA Hicks - stuck with Murphy - gone Hendricks - gone Bernardino - gone Tolle - young, will work with Winckowski - gone The guy with one of the best bb rates, Criswell, was given a surprising contract.

    My complaint was the lack of positional prospects. The Sox have struggled to fill the org with 1B/C prospects for several years. Seems like Craig found a few. The only trade that was surprising to me was the Guerrero one, but maybe Gray will work out like Romy has. We'll see. Seems like they have faith in Uberstine. Drohan deserves some run in the bullpen next year but needs to stay healthy for once.

    The Hoppe for Heyman trade is interesting. BA ranked Heyman 127th. He's a plus power guy who missed the end of last year due to a fractured forearm. His Baseball America pre-draft scouting report noted, “Heyman offers plus raw power and improving swing decisions. He generates carry and lift to the pull side, even on pitches thrown in the outer half of the zone. While Heyman struggled somewhat with offspeed pitches, particularly changeups, he crushed velocity, a byproduct of solid bat speed and rhythm. He stays balanced through his swing and can punish mistakes over the plate.” Baseball America graded his power and arm both 55 (above average) on its 20-80 grading scale. The site added about his defense, “Scouts believe he has a chance to stick behind the plate thanks to above-average arm strength and improved receiving and blocking. He presented pitches more cleanly than in years past and showed a feel for handling a staff.”

    Early, Duran and Arias for Skubal? I'd do it if the Sox were given a 72 hour window to negotiate an extension or call the deal off.
