The geographic pods within each division are important for scheduling reasons: These will be the most frequent matchups on the schedule. The winner of each "pod" will get a playoff spot, unless that team is the overall division winner, in which case the next-best team in the pod gets to go. The driving force behind all this is regionalization. Build those rivalries, starting in the minors, which have already become more geographically aligned and presumably will only become more so over time. You don't ignore the national aspect, but baseball is already local to a significant degree. The structure of the sport ought to reflect that. -- Bradford Doolittle Shut the f*** up Bradford. @redsoxpayroll FWIW, Vazquez's team option next year is currently for $7MM. It goes up to $8MM with another 123 PAs this season. It'll be a race. Down to the wire, especially with more Plawecki ABs.

Prospects - A player will generally graduate from prospect status once he exhausts his MLB "rookie" status." Rookie status is exhausted once a player: (1) has more than 130 at-bats in the majors; (2) has pitched more than 50 innings in the majors; (3) has been on an active major league roster for more than 45 days (not including September call-ups). Duran will graduate in 2 weeks.

@redsoxpayroll Removing Andriese from the roster means effectively declining the 2022 $3.5MM club option in favor of a $250k buy-out. Other 2022 options still to be decided: Richards ($10MM), Perez ($6MM), Vazquez ($7-8MM), Schwarber ($11MM mutual).

They kept Marcus on the 40 man for a long long time. It makes more sense to do that for a high ceiling guy like Jeter.

Cora may not believe in UZR/150 either. Renfroe is starting in CF today, but has a -89.2 UZR/150 in CF this season.

Is that stat just based on getting to balls and fielding them cleanly? Maybe the issue is the throwing to 1B? Maybe the issue is the type of contact the starters are giving up?
