  1. When I'm scrolling through the list of FA candidates, I read Joe Smith and just pass right on by. A perfect name for a team that hasn't sniffed the playoffs in 20 years or whatever. He's 37 and playing for his 7th organization. Also, notin needs to point out Smith's numbers from HOU this season.
  2. Since 2013: Wood 984 Innings Eovaldi 988 Innings
  3. Bloom: "Old woman!" Joe Smith: "Man." B: "Sorry. Old man! Whose clubhouse is that?" J: "I'm 37!" B: "What?" J: "I'm 37, I'm not old!" B: "Well, I can't just call you 'man'." J: "Well, you could say 'Joe Smith'." B: "I didn't know you were called Joe Smith." J: "You never bothered to find out, did you?" B: "I did say sorry about the old woman, but from behind you looked--"
  4. Yes. I have always liked Stroman. Gausman was surprisingly good this year. I'd probably overpay for Stroman. I think he's a good guy to have on your club in terms of energy.
  5. It would be Alex Wood as a 5th starter with Seabold and others at the ready. I wouldn't expect him to be a thrilling signing.
  6. Which one of us would get a WS ring again?
  7. You're right. I noticed my mistake when bell quoted me that I was correct.
  8. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/one-last-week-for-all-the-marbles-zips-projects-the-postseason-home-stretch/ BOS 80% to make the playoffs, 38% for home game.
  9. I don't think it does anything on either fronts.
  10. The "Tampa Rays North" narrative needs to go away.
  11. They have one guy above 801 OPS and some huge offensive black holes. The starters aside from Means generally have 6+ ERA's. Game 3's starter Chris Ellis has started a few games recently, but has a 5.21 FIP.
  12. They traded their 5 best players excluding Soto (Max, Schwarber, Turner, Gomes, Harrison). That's definitely "a few" LMAO. Lane Thomas and Riley Adams have played well after being acquired though.
  13. Nats can hit, they just can't pitch and field. 8th worst in ERA 2nd worst in HR's allowed They traded away their two best fielders and the remaining defense is pretty bad. It's the kind of team that the 2021 Sox can beat up pretty good.
  14. The Red Sox have a budget that the Rays never do. Bloom has the ability to sign expensive guys, but should be able to focus on the MiLB guys and get some undervalued players to supplement the $$$ guys.
  15. He could wind up being ok. However, his "stuff" has been greatly diminished this season in AAA. Maybe he can get healthy this offseason? If not, he'll never make an impact in the rotation.
  16. I only thought it could be a cheaper option. I'm not really psyched on a lot of the pitching FA's this offseason. Max is old and will want too many years. Stroman and Gausman are the two I'd lobby for. Roll the dice for a healthy Syndergaard? I think Robbie Ray is a flash in the pan. DeSclafani as a lower tiered guy? Alex Wood?
  17. I've seen this one before. https://www.baseball-almanac.com/box-scores/boxscore.php?boxid=201109280BAL
  18. It's a magic date because the Sox magically started to suck at that time. I guess 2 straight months of playing poor to mediocre baseball is something people want to believe in, but I can't.
  19. The Rays strength is always their depth. Their B team would still be a very good team. All their backups are basically Alex Verdugo level good. To the Rays, a pitching backup is Shane Baz.
  20. Every team has ifs. Some just have more ifs than others.
  21. Sox have the perfect schedule lined up. Even missing out on a home WC game is kinda disappointing TBH.
  22. Not sure they are comfortable ponying up for Rosenthal. I don't think they'll pay for Jansen. Kimbrel's ship has sailed. I guess they'd try to get Raisel Iglesias?
  23. I honestly think Houck and Whitlock flip roles and Houck becomes the high leverage guy. Does he close? IDK.
  24. You're wrong. The Sox beat up on weaker teams and fold against stronger teams. It's more likely than not that they get scorched in a WC game, because that is what past performance has shown. The coin flip idea doesn't work here.
  25. For what? The Sox aren't perennial underdogs. This isn't 1998. Getting embarrassed in a WC game doesn't sound like a fun time to me.
