  1. He's NOT getting more k's. 2021 10.97 k/9 2019 13.32 k/9 2018 13.5 k/9 2017 12.93 k/9
  2. That doesn't say they were stretching him out to be a starter though. But the Red Sox want him stretched out mainly for multiple-inning relief appearances. The team, at least as of right now, is not considering him for spot starts at some point this season. “We haven’t talked about that. Actually it hasn’t been a topic for our group,” Cora said about spot starts.
  3. When did they say they were stretching him out?
  4. Yes, he earned his contract. They won a WS. He was a big part of it.
  5. Luplow's grand slam AB: 94 MPH FB - called strike 94 MPH FB - foul 94 MPH FB - HR
  6. It's pitch selection. FB: 331 WOBA, 437 SLG SL: 217 WOBA, 228 SLG CHG: 479 WOBA, 667 SLG Run Value by Pitch Type: Slider -1 FB -1 Change 5 According to statcast, his changeup has 3"s less of vertical drop than in 2019.
  7. Whitlock in 2019: Frist 3 starts: 6IP each time out June 2019: 5 GS, 6 IP each time out July 2019: 1 GS, 5 IP - TJS Whitlock in 2018: 8 starts of 6 IP+ Houck's longest start in 2021: 5.1 IP Houck in 2020: 5IP, 6IP, 6IP Houck in 2019: 8 starts 6IP+ Houck in 2018: 8 starts 6IP+ Same age. Similar question marks.
  8. He was under contract for 2019. He wouldn't have been a FA until the following offseason when he was injured.
  9. I'm pretty sure there have been some very derogatory comments made about the Sox medical staff on here.
  10. Even cooler to see Kiké win a WS MVP. Dodgers intentionally let Kiké leave for nothing.
  11. DHern vs R: 677 OPS Davis vs R: 876 OPS HOU has the lowest k rate of any MLB team. They put the ball in play.
  12. Plans change, pal.
  13. Love to use arguments that take away a large portion of the reason you bring FAs in. "Was it worth it if they never won in 2018?" We brought him in to win a WS. They won a WS. It was worth it.
  14. If you don't have to worry about the changeup, you can sit on that fastball.
  15. @TomCaron Sox #ALCS roster. Barnes, Davis off. Sawamura, Darwinzon Henandez on. Everything else stays the same.
  16. All he needs to do is get his changeup back and he's golden.
  17. I would look at the Rays 2021 FA model: Wacha 1/3 McHugh 1/1.8 Hunter 1/2.2
  18. I flip flop each day as to which one should move to the rotation.
  19. Price was dealing with arm issues that year. After the ASB, he had a 2.25 ERA and 8 QS in 11 appearances. His last 3 starts in the playoffs: Game 5 HOU: 6IP, 9K, 0BB, 3H, 0R winning pitcher for ALCS clinching game Game 2 LAD: 6IP, 5K, 3BB, 2H, 2R Game 5 LAD: 7IP, 5K, 2BB, 3H, 1R winning pitcher for WS clinching game He earned his money.
  20. I think it was a reasonable assumption to expect better seasons out of Lester and Lackey though. Victorino was better in 2013 than CC was in 2011. Napoli held his own. WMB was coming off an interesting year at 3b. The bigger question for that team was BP and SS.
  21. Houck reminds me more of how they used Paplebon at the beginning. Paplebon started with a few 5 inning starts and then was transitioned to a multiple inning role in the pen. There was question in the offseason if he'd be put in the rotation, but Paplebon said he was fine being the closer going into opening day. Whitlock is a greater unknown because we don't know if they are simply managing his innings because of him coming of TJS. I could see a case for either being put in the rotation OR being left in the pen.
  22. Not sure he would have passed a physical on the open market.
  23. To me, his contract was made into a bigger deal than it actually was. He wasn't an albatross. If the Sox ate that much salary, they probably could have moved him elsewhere too.
  24. I just made a case that Devers is better. No big deal. Bregman was a better player in 18 and 19, but he hasn't played that way in recent memory.
  25. The 2011 team was supposedly the greatest Sox team of all time on 4/1/11. Due to injuries, they missed the playoffs on game 162. They played .500 ball in 2012 and traded 3 players midseason because they made the shittiest manager hire in my lifetime. In the offseason, they replenished what was traded away and became contenders. It wasn't all that surprising.
