  1. He held the career MiLB home run record at some point. I love my late 80's PAWSOX.
  2. I think the Tampa fans deserve a shot at a good MLB stadium first. The owners just don't want to fork over the money to do it. I'm not sure Miami would be happy with splitting their home games since they have a very new and expensive ballpark that they need to derive revenue off of.
  3. Good talent evaluator. Horrible bullpen arm acquirer.
  4. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/lanceri01.shtml
  5. He OPS'd 818 in the Japanese Eastern League (their minors), but only hit 558 after being called up. I don't think he was ever good enough to find "fame." He would have just been a 4th or 5th OFer.
  6. How do you think Cashman's strategy will work out if they institute an international draft? Will that be better for the Yanks? Worse?
  7. I'm not disagreeing that the Yankees farm system is pretty good. I just think the value for their prospects tend to be a little overinflated.
  8. In regards to the Rays Montreal/Tampa timeshare falling through: @BillShaikin Sternberg: "Partial seasons are going to be the wave of the future in professional sports."
  9. @SoxProspects A day after Baseball America's 2022 top 100 prospect list came out, Baseball Prospectus releases their Top 101. The same four Red Sox made the list. -Marcelo Mayer (17) -Nick Yorke (40) -Triston Casas (44) -Jarren Duran (81)
  10. What's the definition of "own players?" What if you traded for the player the previous deadline?
  11. I have no answers. It's hard to pick apart what the owners want.
  12. It's obvious that the owners are making good money off of these teams. Why else would there be a rush to sign FA's prior to the CBA expiring? Does this show that the owners believe the luxury tax penalties will either go away or at least the threshold would go up higher? It seems like there are a few strata of baseball owners: 1. large market, flushed with cash (LAD, BOS, NY, SF) 2. mid level teams that alternate between spending and being thrifty (TOR, ChiSox, TEX, DET, SD) 3. smaller market teams that rarely spend anything (PIT, TBR, OAK, MIA, CLE) How do the ownerships work together when it seems like there are competing interests in terms of how to manage payroll? Why would teams like LAD ever be ok with a luxury threshold? Is there something the lower level teams have in their back pocket that keeps their interests at the forefront?
  13. He's referring to Austin Wells, a beefy C who isn't great behind the dish. Maybe he sticks there for a while like Gary Sanchez, but he has DH written all over him without Yorke's hit tool.
  14. I forgot about that bad contract. I guess the Betts' deal is a steal these days!
  15. @NBCSEdgeBB Report: Correa asking for $330-350 million Betts 37.2 fWAR prior to signing his deal. Correa has 25.1 fWAR. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd give him $250M.
  16. @ChrisCotillo Some Red Sox news: Maverick Carter has been added to the Red Sox Foundation’s Board of Directors.
  17. On Yorke: "He's potentially a double-plus hitter with average power who can stay on the infield" If he can stay at 2b, that is the biggest win for this org.
  18. Mayer 15 Casas 19 Yorke 31 Duran 91 Yanks: Volpe 10 Peraza 55 Dominguez 87
  19. @BeyondtheMnstr Nick Yorke is now the No. 31 prospect in all of baseball, per @BaseballAmerica
  20. Giants wouldn't make that trade.
  21. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-court-baseball/supreme-court-wont-hear-challenge-to-baseball-antitrust-immunity-idUSKCN0RZ1JV20151005 The Supreme Court stated as much with the A's/San Jose situation.
  22. So no games until 4/16 at 12 AM?
  23. The Oakland A's aren't allowed to move to San Jose because the Giants have a poop in their diaper and are cranky (aka antitrust exemption). If you take the poop out of the diaper, the Oakland A's could move to San Jose if they wanted to.
  24. The parallels between Congress and MLB Owners: universally reviled can't budget need to be saved from themselves laws don't apply to them move slower than molasses love saber rattling take the general public for granted
  25. It's not about a second league coming in for competition. Getting rid of the exemption would allow bargaining power to MiLB players and it would be easier for teams to move to a more lucrative market (the A's for example).
