  1. There's been a major correction to the Salem roster: it's now spelled WIKELMAN Please adjust your scorebooks accordingly.
  2. I would say that it's best business to wait until Memorial Day before proclaiming any season to be a failure.
  3. Without reason at that point?
  4. The two current FIP leaders were both FA this offseason: Rodon and Gausman.
  5. Ah, but have you heard that in very rare cases they can find a missing RBI under someone's pillow!?!?
  6. I'm not sure I'm the one who missed the point.
  7. It's not inconsequential since WE ARE STATING THAT FWAR SHOULDN'T BE USED FOR COMPENSATION SINCE THEY JUST CHANGED THE CALCULATION. You're expecting a lock down that has never happened before. With the information we have now, using fWAR for compensation would be a bad idea.
  8. So the difference between 1 missing RBI and 3 fWAR... Is 1 RBI greater than 3 fWAR?
  9. Except that math is based on an opinion of how to come up with a final value.
  10. Yes the "relievers are less reliable" thing is just a myth.
  11. I don't like them either. They have been used in compensation bonuses for various players in the past.
  12. They have value in scouting and discussions on here. For compensation, I think the best way to go is to keep it simple and direct. Do I like awards? No. Are the foolproof? Hell no. But at least they are set in stone once awarded (same as Batting Average, OPS, K, etc.).
  13. For direct compensation it can be ignored. We just saw players gain and lose 3 fWAR just on the push of a button. What happens if a player misses out on compensation, but then fWAR is updated later on and the player sees that he's now deserving of the compensation retroactively?
  14. Until fWAR comes up with a final calculation that won't be changed next week, yes.
  15. Awards are fine. Defensive metrics right now are still very heavily leaning towards eye test type stuff. Better to leave them off than stick with actual results. I don't know what you're fighting against, since FanGraphs JUST changed their calculation so it's not like WAR is set in stone.
  16. He led the league in throwing errors last year with 13. #2 Trevor Story 11 (the guy that is supposedly a huge upgrade over Xander at SS) #3 Kiner-Falefa 11 (the glove first fielding "wiz" the Yankees fans were excited over this offseason) #4 Iglesias 10 (the guy who was traded to make room for Xander even though he was a generational glove)
  17. The most Whitlock has ever thrown in a game is 4 innings, so it makes sense.
  18. I agree that it is a little concerning to lose a series at home and then know you have to travel to that same team next week with an unknown amount of players being left behind due to COVID and vaccination status. This part of the year feels like August 2021 when the Sox got hit hard with COVID and struggled to stay above water. It'll be interesting to see what the standings look like after next weekend's series with the O's.
  19. The actual misery is far lesser than what they had 20 years ago.
  20. Awards or tangible stats like OPS. WAR would be the worst option since there is no agreed upon calculation for it and the fielding metrics aren't as clear cut as the offensive ones.
  21. Sox won a WS with Xander as their SS and -8 DRS that year. Bichette has yet to have a negative DRS season.
  22. Reed is a bad man. I've never seen the pitcher get left laying on the ground like that. https://twitter.com/FriarBad/status/1517289586090643457
  23. Well FanGraphs even said they shouldn't base ANY compensation on it.
  24. Except that measure is still up for interpretation, clearly.
