I agree, Hugh. Bad offseason to have money to spend. I think the Mets are going to prioritize keeping Nimmo, so I don't see him coming here. Maybe the Sox sign one starting pitcher to lead the rotation? If they don't, the rotation will look a little rough. Is there a non-QO guy that they should bring in? They've been talking about Tyler Anderson, but jumping on a 32 year old guy who had a career year with a xFIP that was 1.50 greater than his ERA seems suspect! More likely they go Kluber or Taillon, but that doesn't necessarily LEAD the rotation. Rodon is an injury risk. deGrom is going to break the bank, but would be exciting as all get out.

Are you saying "sold on Casas" as in the Sox are only going to keep Casas and aren't going to have any high profile players going forward until other young guys show up?

May as well just run Downs out there if you're going to sign Simmons who had a 27 wRC+ last season and a -0.3 fWAR. Segura has played 17 innings at SS the past 3 years. I don't think he's an option at SS.

Again, it's a bad FA class. It could be a good year to deal a guy like Devers. There isn't a lot of good talent available. Maybe you could get a good haul? IDK. Sounds gross just to type it out.

They can spend 90+, but the question is on who? It's a BAD FA class. Re-sign Xander. Get Montero. OF options are not good. Hodgepodge of other relievers? I don't see them going after QO guys unless it's Turner/Correa/Judge. The QO to Bassitt takes him off the table IMO.

It would never make sense to take on Hosmer if it was going to impact the luxury tax like Nick was suggesting. That would be a firable offense without getting major talent back.

Wrong.... Nobody would ever take Hosmer if it impacted their luxury tax calculation. Cots has been bad lately. It's no longer a good source.

In 2020, he bulked up and got injured so we can throw that season out. I think he's somewhere between 2021 and 2022. xSLG 2017 52 2018 67 2019 55 2021 68 2022 55 While the actual slugging rate went down, the slugging rate went down across the league. His percentile was consistent with 17 (435) and 19 (456) even though this season it was down to 407.

If you sign Bogey for 6 years or Swanson for 6 years, how does Swanson's Contract end 3 years sooner if he's only a year younger? It still ends only a year earlier?

He hasn't had a season above 1 fWAR since leaving KCR. I don't think Fenway necessarily suits him. Can he be a 1 fWAR guy in a platoon role? At a minimum salary, that's good.

No. That wasn't a low risk high reward signing. Just because a guy has a big season out of nowhere doesn't make it a low risk high reward signing. If things went well for Perez, most people assumed a 2 fWAR season. Nobody assumed a potential 4 fWAR season. At most, he was moderate risk moderate reward (risk being injury, wasted rotation spot due to ineffectiveness, contract above minimum etc.). For example, if Judge signs a monster deal some where, it's going to be high risk high reward. If things go well, he'll hit close to 2022, but not necessarily match it. If Franchy Cordero is DFA'd and claimed by the Marlins, the definition of him doing well would be everyday OFer. That would be low risk low reward. If he outperformed that level and has a near All Star season it doesn't make it a low risk high reward move. More often than not, these low risk low reward moves don't move the needle because the moves don't generate high returns, which is why they are all lumped together as low risk low reward. You can't just resort them after the fact.
