  1. https://twitter.com/redsoxstats/status/1518982380165468160 Sox have used Diekman and Robles the most as their highest leverage closers. For some unknown reason, they keep putting Brasier in that position too. Diekman's way too early 6.28 FIP portends for some correction though.
  2. Half. 15th in fWAR, 12th in FIP, 23rd in LOB%, 26th in GB%. Average of those 4 is 19. 15/16 is midpoint. It's still early, but they seem like an "average" pen to me. I wouldn't say above average though. Not yet anyway.
  3. Someone you'd ignore when they were signed. I don't think anyone expected much out of him that offseason. Him working with Whitlock more than made up for his salary though.
  4. He replicated his boyhood hero's fete of hitting 5HR over the course of a double header, which he was in attendance for. "Interestingly, Colbert grew up in St. Louis and, in post-game interview with Tom Emory of the Associated Press, claims to have personally witnessed his boyhood idol's historic feat (correctly identifying both the venue and the day of the week): I was there when Stan hit those five in old Busch Stadium. Hitting five in one day is unreal. I don't remember the exact day, but I know it was a Sunday. Stan was my first hero when I was growing up. I'd be pretty proud to have the kind of batting average he had."
  5. Passing on Khalil Lee has not come back to bite Bloom yet.
  6. Victor Santos 42 (CJ Chatham)
  7. Both are bad for my blood pressure.
  8. He needs to get in on the poaching train. @KyleAGlaser The Astros began the trend of teams cutting scouts and replacing them with video and data scouting. After seeing how that approach turned out, the Astros have pivoted and are now hiring scouts at the fastest rate of any team in baseball.
  9. Christian Koss for one year of AA Yoan Aybar is hilarious in retrospect.
  10. Graterol 2021: 0.3 fWAR Wong 2021: 0.2 fWAR Graterol is ok. He's not a gamechanger right now though.
  11. They are very down on what he is doing in the batters box right now. They hate his new swing.
  12. Last year: 9th in fWAR, 10th in FIP, 11th in LOB%, 4th in GB%. That's an "above average" pen to me.
  13. 15th in fWAR, 12th in FIP, 23rd in LOB%, 26th in GB%.
  14. Are they average or above average?
  15. Yes, Andriese was signed for 2.1M. That's less than a quarter of what Richards and Ottavino were paid.
  16. Already posted.
  17. Looks like Sox will get to keep 9 relievers a little longer. @Joelsherman1 MLB and MLBPA have agreed to delay going to a 13-pitcher limit on Monday, May 2. It will now go into effect on May 30. But the rosters still drop in size from 28 to 26 on Monday.
  18. And Eichhorn had 9.52 in 86 when he pitched 157 innings.
  19. Ok? I'm just saying maybe we see a reversal as pitching usage has changed.
  20. This was the first offseason that he could poach guys from the Rays. I didn't hear of him grabbing too many this offseason.
  21. I've looked at it before. It was 150 in the 80's. Dropped to about 100 in the 90's. Dropped to 80/90 from then on.
  22. I wouldn't have Downs in my top 20. McDonough may be too high. I'd probably drop Crawford from the top 20 too.
  23. Preinjury Mata (1.75 ERA, 1.09 WHIP in High A previous year) and Ward (2.14 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) with Song just pitching in Lowell the previous season (1.06 ERA, 0.88 WHIP) had the higher ceiling IMO.
  24. Could still have him face batters 7-9?
