Correction for my post above:
@BOSSportsGordo
Does not look like Alfaro will use his upward mobility clause now, but he does have opt outs on 6/1 and 7/1 if he’s not on the roster by then.
Alfaro had an upward mobility clause, not an opt out. On 3/25, if he wasn't put on the 40 man, other clubs could offer to put him on their rosters in 24 hours. Clearly, nobody else added him as he's now going to WOO.
@MacCerullo
Word from Fort Myers is Bobby Dalbec has been optioned to Triple-A and Jorge Alfaro will remain with the Sox in Worcester. Presumably that means Yu Chang and Connor Wong will both start the season with the big league club.
The Red Sox could have also just kept Ward in AAA as well. Easy enough to manage his innings.
We'll have to see if keeping Mills, Ort, Kelly and Murphy justify letting Ward go.
Why do you have Mills ahead of Bleier?
Mills career: 6.21 ERA, 4.58 xFIP
Bleier: 3.06 ERA, 3.79 xFIP
Bleier has been a solid pitcher for a long time. Wyatt is a waiver wire guy.
Ward's track record isn't that much different than Brandon Walter.
Ward: 41 Innings AA, 0 AAA
Walter: 50 Innings AA, 7 AAA
Some people thought Walter could help the Sox early on this season.
I'm not comparing Ward to Ort, but Ward to Chris Murphy. I think I would have kept Ward over Murphy 100%.
AAA Rafaela, Duran
AA Abreu
A+ ?
A Bleis, Anthony
Abreu hasn't really produced anywhere since leaving the HOU organization (POR, AFL, Spring Training). Rafaela also is far from a sure thing. Makes sense to hold onto Duran for now.
