  1. .....who may also be suffering the effects of several years playing on turf, a home ballpark that supresses whatever little power he has, and further exploitation of his main weakness (inability to hit lefties). It's easy to downplay just how severely platoon issues can impact a player's usefulness, but a .354 OPS vs lefties is Rey Ordonez territory. I'll keep saying it was a stupid contract until he proves me wrong.
  2. Tito should be criticized in this instance, not because he took Bucholz out, but because he's overusing an already ineffective Bard. He has options, so why not use them?
  3. Bard looks like he has absolutely no idea where his fastball is going.
  4. Come on guys, don't be mad at suns, it's clear he's not used to winning, and in reality, he's not a troll, he's just really really really really really really really really really really really really really stupid. Anyways, there's definitely something wrong with Bard. I don't buy the "they just hit good pitches" theory. It's clear he has no clue where the ball is going.
  5. Just get 'em tomorrow.
  6. I agree with most of the research on defense and its impact on the game of baseball, and i've been a fervent proponent of it on site, however, i disagree that a run prevented is worth more than a run scored, because you can win a 15-14 slugfest, but you can't win a 0-0 ballgame. You need to score to win.
  7. I see that Soxsport is bringing me closer to the realization that he has to be a bot by the post and suns is as obnoxious and delusional as ever. Some things don't change. As for tonight's game, i have noticed that the bullpen this year is a lot like the Final Fantasy Video Game series, either a masterpiece (FFVII, VIII, X) or a flaming turd that makes you want to rip the hair out of your head one by one by dishing the money it costs to acquire it (FFIX, FFX2, FFXIII)
  8. Hey Soxpsport, are you ever ever ever ever ever ever going to stop beating the "Relievers are overused" dead horse?
  9. Crawford needs to think there's a runner at third and it's tie game in the bottom of the ninth every time he hits. Dude would hit .400.
  10. I'm surprised they haven't found a way to blame me even though i haven't been into one of this gamethreads this season at all. Oh wait, they did a couple nights back!
  11. Neck tightness for Beckett aacording to the FSN broadcast. Can the couch managers be calm now?
  12. On the internet, no smiley, no sarcasm. By the ways, that "Papelbon will probably be re-signed" bandwagon looks pretty good to jump on right now. We've been there since before the season started.
  13. rsr, you and i need to do some dealing in the fantasy league. Oh, and the Tigers' announcing crew is full of homers. I hate homers.
  14. The Lowrie nonsense makes my head ache. Oy Vey. At least i get to watch the game in HD on FSN Detroit, yay!
  15. Those are a lot of ifs, not to mention that even though the velocity of his fastball is not as important to a pitcher's overall stuff as one may be inclined to believe, the loss of velocity over the lack couple of years, the poor peripherals and the poor values of his secondary stuff (when taking his luck into account) don't paint a pretty picture. There are tons of guys in the league with intriguing stuff, few of them pull it together to become very good, even less become great like Schilling, only one became Roy Halladay.
  16. Bautista either really figured things out when he got to the Blue Jays, or he's on steroids. Through the minors and DWL he was always a gap-to-gap hitter with fantastic plate discipline who could, however, be beat with both soft stuff outside or hard stuff up-inside since he was a dead pull hitter without great power, now all of sudden, those balls that were flyouts or sometimes lineouts (due to his average power) are banging the wall or leaving the yard. Something really fishy there.
  17. The problem is that i'm not a talent evaluator (nor do i claim to be) and neither are you. What we can go by are statistics and secondhand scouting reports, since watching a couple games doesn't provide with an accurate view of his actual skill level. The fact is, he once had great stuff (a fastball averaging in the mid-90's) but it now averages right around 92 MPH (which is right around league average by the way) he has decent . but not great secondary stuff, confidence problems per the scouting reports, platoon issues and flukey peripherals. Don't know how you can get Roy Hallady from there, but hey, to each his own.
  18. Sorry, but the underlying statistics don't lie, and that's why i'm using Masterson as en example, because he's having a similarly flukey performance and they will, most likely, both correct themselves. You can't maintain a sub-4 ERA with a scrap-heap K rate and massive platoon issues. Hey, if you want to put on some blindfolds and thing that one and a half months of good (well, lucky) pitching is going to erase all of his prior (and future) mediocrity be my guest.
  19. A combination of the fallout from the steroid where many teams were stuck with all-hit, no field players making massive amounts of money (See: Giambi, Jason) and a newfound emphasis on run prevention (Preventing a run is the next best thing to scoring one some would say).
  20. I'm still waiting for the moment when you realize that it's 2011 and not 1971 bro. Can't have it both ways and bitch when Tito leaves his starters when they obviously have nothing then turn around and complain about pitch counts. The way pitchers are handled is what it is, because with advanced scouting reports, more refined hitting approaches and bigger, more powerful athletes at the plate, it's simply a different game.
