  1. With a very large ego. The trophy posing is a good point, but the end goal is to make money, let's not kid ourselves.
  2. Too much competition for viewer's attention.
  3. There has to be an organizational issue with developing pitchers here
  4. I fail to understand why you'd think Henry gives a s*** about the Red Sox on an emotional level. He wants to make money, and to make the most amount of money, he needs to field a good team. That's what businessmen do.
  5. Good goddamn point. Touché
  6. Such a ray of sunshine and understandable posts.
  7. Someone other than Kiké f***ing Hernández playing ss?
  8. Lot of publications gushing about Mayer's new approach of lifting the ball more this year. He's between numbers 3 and 5 in a lot of publication's top prospect lists, so we have that going for us, which is nice.
  9. That's what discussion board or forum is for. I can do without the whining every single day. But again, to each his own.
  10. You can be unhappy and critical without being whiny. That's not what the board is for, but let's not open that can of worms.
  11. Not to me. The whining gets old quick, but to each his own.
  12. I'm too old for this.
  13. Overall? Yes. Gates, concessions, ad revenue are significant. I'll redo that analysis, which is an argument that a700hitter beat me on a couple years ago.
  14. Or Story's stupid contract.
  15. But it's not even an argument that they want to make more money. Everybody wants to make more money. The way to do that is making the playoffs.
  16. But they spend money and make the playoffs. That's the point, and probably what the Sox want to emulate, but that doesn't mean the Sox don't want to spend, as spending is what they've always done, sometimes with less than desirable results, because of the lack of a farm system that constantly produces talent, and is absolutely awful at producing pitching.
  17. Yeah, but for a team like the Red Sox, who don't take part in revenue sharing, fielding a competitive team that makes the playoff is the surest way to profitability. TV deals aside, regular season gate and playoff gate are the best ways for a large market team to make money, since merchandise sales are divided equally among teams.
  18. That's not how baseball economics work for a large-market team at all, and funny that you mention Houston and the Dodgers, two teams who win a lot, spend a lot, and are great at developing players.
  19. I miss Theo Epstein
  20. Ineptitude being the operative word here.
  21. Cora is playing the hand he was dealt.
  22. This is flat out dumb. Ownership wants to maximize profit, that's business 101. For a big market team like this one, not making the playoffs is not it. They made stupid moves, and trusted in rebounds from players who have added nothing, but the "they don't care" narrative is logically and intellectually dishonest.
  23. Dude why can't you detect sarcasm like, at all?
  24. Don't remember the lean times huh.
  25. If y'all know the team isn't going to win as constructed, what's the rush with demoting the young guys? Let them play.
