  1. A) Lowell is not a good defender. Youkilis is an average defender. Beltre is a GG defender. B ) Batting average? Seriously?. When you think about "losing pop" think Safeco Field, then think about Fenway. Beltre is at the very least a 20+ HR bat.
  2. Texas Rangers interested in Mike Lowell. Posted by Whiskeybreath in another thread. The interest from other teams (Texas in this case) in Mike Lowell is real. Gom crashes and burns again.
  3. According to Gom, it's impossible to trade Lowell.
  4. In that scenario, yes, it is absolutely plausible.
  5. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the Sox can either exchange Lowell's contract for another bad one, or eat part of the salary and trade him (for a sack of balls) to a team that needs a 3B (Minnesota comes to mind). Then again, look who's asking the question.
  6. You think they could've signed Beltre (they're looking at him), Holliday/Bay, get a starter (Be it Halladay or whoever), dump Lowell or exchange his contract and get a couple relievers while taking on Granderson's salary? Besides that, who leads off?
  7. Yeah, that's the intention. Definitely.
  8. And this has its own thread because?
  9. Re-sign Bay/sign Holliday, sign Beltre, get a starter who can eat innings. /offseason.
  10. The point is, it was a fantastic move for the Yankees, Granderson is a perfect fit for that stadium, he actually saves them money, and constitutes a "Youth and health" upgrade, while not giving away a major piece of their ML club. For the Sox it wouldn't be a perfect fit for the stadium, would have cost them money that could go elsewhere, Ellsbury is younger, and a major piece of the Major League club.
  11. What if they wanted to trade for Halladay and sign Bay/Holliday? No budget restraints? Looking forward is important.
  12. So trying to get a 3B who can actually play defense is a bad thing? News to me.
  13. Not the way i meant it. I was asking why you were asking the question if, in the bigger picture, you saw it the same way i did, and, you know fully well the Sox don't operate under the same monetary scheme as the Yanks (nobody does).
  14. It was a fit for the Yankees stadium-wise, lineup-wise (Jeter=lead-off hitter) and money wise. Can you say the same about the Sox?
  15. He cannot hit lefty pitching. We cannot afford to have one of our OF's be a platoon player with Francona's genius game plans. Remember how much you bitched and moaned about Francona sitting Drew against LHP last year? It'd have been worse with Granderson. And it would have been warranted, which makes it even worse.
  16. Of course you do.
  17. He was at the second half of last year, for sure. Have you checked Granderson's splits? I suggest you do so.
  18. I actually discussed those numbers with Doiji a couple pages back here, or on the Sox offseason thread. A Beltre signing would make the Scutaro one much more palatable for me.
  19. That's not a good idea. Granderson is not a lead-off hitter. You trade Granderson for Ellsbury and who leads off? Thank God for Theo.
  20. Safeco and Dodger over Fenway + GG defense at the position.
  21. Taking dollar figures at the beginning of a negotiation at face value (and dollar figures that are "reported" by a source nonetheless) to support an argument is asinine. That's what i think about Seattle's chances.
  22. Right now, Halladay is worth either player. Toronto has no leverage to be asking for top prospects.
