  1. Dice-K will be run out of town if he doesn't make good. Last year with the WBC, he showed that the Sox weren't that high on his list of priorities. Given that the fans have soured on him and given how big his paycheck is, he had better perform. No excuses. Get it done.
  2. Unquestionably a first ballot Hall of Famer. Was a DH, yes, but also played a lot of games at 1B (971). Easily one of the greatest right-handed hitters of all time. Never a whisper about steroid use. In fact, it's well-documented how outspoken he was against PEDs dating all the way back to 1995. Only player to cooperate with the Mitchell Report.
  3. So... how about that slam dunk contest? :dunno::thumbdown
  4. Dock Ellis threw a no-no while on LSD. .
  5. Considering what the Giants are paying Zito, Lincecum can't be ecstatic about this. The Giants saved a lot of money, but I'm willing to bet when free agency rolls around in a few years, Lincecum will jump ship.
  6. I think I've already got my team name picked out: Tim & Cain & Pray For Rain. That or: Sizemorneaumar.
  7. Same. Like I said in the other thread, the more competitive the league is, the better.
  8. UZR isn't what it's cracked up to be, IMHO.
  9. Wow, Nicole is taking a beating in this thread. Look up other pictures of her. Maybe you'll see something you like.
  10. Read what I said again. He does more with less. Or as Dipre put it, Pedroia maximizes his potential. That's because it is subjective. Contrary to popular belief, not everything can be explained by statistical analysis. If that were the case, we wouldn't need scouts.
  11. You are conflating results with ability. Pedroia is the more refined and complete player. But he does more with less than Cano.
  12. OBP isn't considered a tool. Cano is more of a natural than Pedroia. It's nothing to get hot and bothered about.
  13. Thank God. Baseball can't start soon enough.
  14. Cano might actually be more talented than Pedroia. Not saying he's a better all-around player or a more refined player. But as far as physical gifts are concerned, he probably has Pedroia beat.

I've always wondered why 4 runs in 8 or 9 innings isn't considered a quality start under the current criteria.
  16. Hawks are looking for another goalie before the deadline. Please don't let that goalie be Tim Thomas.
  17. I'll play again, and my team will strike fear in your hearts. If someone knows how to contact Gom, I would be open to him playing again as well. The more competitive the league, the better.
  18. I think everyone knew when they got Garnett and Allen that the window to win a championship was probably around 3 years before the team got too old. At this point, they could get to the second round, but I don't see them advancing beyond that. Time to shake things up and make a trade.
  19. Ah, good catch. Forgot about Stern. That makes four who were on the roster.
  20. It is unusual, and if Rosenthal was fair and impartial he would have pointed that out. Youk, Gabe Kapler, and Craig Breslow.
  21. Age-old debate. Do you think college baseball should use wood bats or metal bats? I say wood is good. Metal is fine for high school, but I think it's dangerous for 18-22 year olds. I know I wouldn't want to be a pitcher in college! The wood would also separate the men from the boys. I've heard that D-2 and D-3 baseball is pretty boring with wood. If that's the case, I would be willing to compromise and have the wood implemented only for D-1. Of course, that could be somewhat problematic, as you'd have a few D-1 caliber players electing to play D-2 for the metal bat. However, if I'm a scout and I see a D-1 caliber player doing that, I immediately think he's afraid of gettng exposed with the wood, and in my mind, that player's value goes down. Obviously, there are some exceptions. The advantage of playing at a junior college is you can get drafted earlier. So, you already have some D-1 talent there for that reason. I'd still take wood in D-1 only over the status quo, though. The metal poses a serious threat to pitchers and sometimes gives scouts a false or distorted impression of hitters. I guarantee there would be fewer busts in the earlier rounds if D-1 implemented the wood.
  22. Hairston is versatile, I'll give him that.
  23. Nah not really, Hairston's bat is a dime a dozen.
