  1. Yeah, I'm going to have to call BS on Tazawa and Bowden being "serviceable" and "solid" #4 starters right now. There is nothing to suggest that is the case. Also, Tazawa will be fine because he pitched well at Portland and because Soxprospects gives him a glowing scouting report?
  2. Because it's really, really hard to do and it's asking a lot of a child to learn how to throw with both arms. I can throw pretty well with my right arm, but I throw like a girl with my left.
  3. Jacko making the same pick as me? That's like the kiss of death.
  4. Wow, Russell Westbrook almost had a quadruple-double. 21 points, 10 assists, 7 rebounds, 8 steals. Only 4 players in NBA history have recorded a quadruple-double. Can you name them? I looked them up, but I guessed 2 of them on my own. Also, it might interest Celtics fans to know that Larry Legend almost had one. In 1985 against Utah, he had 30 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, and 9 steals.
  5. Lane Kiffin, you are a joke. Seriously? A 13-year old?
  6. I'll always have a soft spot for Podsednik, but Ellsbury is better than he ever was. Pods was never really a good outfielder. He misplays a lot of balls and takes bad routes. Ellsbury is a better contact hitter and has more upside, IMO.
  7. They're pretty strong up the middle now. Not saying much, but they definitely have the best lineup in the AL Central. If they can get a full season from Slowey, they'll be in good shape.
  8. Eh, not that worried.
  9. A full season of Lackey, Dice-K, Buchholz, Scutaro (who I believe will be around league average), and V-Mart closes the gap significantly. Pitching and defense. The Sox have both in spades. And while you may not be sold on the offense, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the production from the bottom of the order.
  10. Here's another guy: Max Homick. He's a southpaw on the mound, but he throws with his right hand at third base. He thinks he could also pitch both ways.
  11. I think Iglesias is a good bet - if his bat catches up to his glove. I've heard comparisons to Omar Vizquel. You've got to like that. Everyone raves about Westmoreland's potential. Best position prospect since Hanley, has all the tools, etc. But I'd like to see what he can do in a full season at a higher level. I don't think the shoulder surgery and broken collarbone are anything to really worry about, but if he gets hurt again this year that could be a red flag. I could see Kelly finding a spot in the rotation. The Sox should definitely resign Beckett. But if Dice-K doesn't rebound or Buchholz doesn't pan out/is traded, the door would be wide open for Kelly. I'm a little biased, but I think Ryan Lavarnway is also someone who should be mentioned in the discussion. Big man with big power. And he reminds me a little of Frank Thomas here.
  12. Yeah, I guess I jumped the gun on this. So did a lot of media outlets. Still doesn't mean it won't happen, though.
  13. You forgot Cliff Lee.
  14. Jack Zduriencik is at it again. Ryan Garko signed with the Mariners for 1 year worth $550,000. Excellent value for the money.
  15. Yeah, I would agree that's probably a done deal. Unless the Sox trade Ellsbury/Cameron before the deadline.
  16. I'm not a Dusty fan, but Wood had arm problems long before he came along. As I recall, Wood started both games of a doubleheader in high school. You can probably trace a lot of his injuries to that. Plus, the guy has always been prone to blisters. Sort of like Beckett in that regard.
  17. I agree they rushed him and that it probably hurt him. But in 2007, he had ugly peripherals? If 5.6 H/9, 0.4 HR/9, 10 K/9, 3.26 K/BB, and a 0.964 WHIP are ugly peripherals, I'd like to see your criteria for good peripherals. You also seem to be under the false impression that Kennedy was significantly older than his competition.
