Thome would get a lot more ABs with the White Sox; they don't really have a DH right now. And he wouldn't be a good fit with the Red Sox since they might need someone to platoon with Ortiz to hit LHP. And I wouldn't even entertain the idea of him at 1st base or 3rd base.
First Jim Edmonds. Now Preston Wilson. Who's next, Jacque Jones? What's with these has-beens trying to come back? I guess it's hard to let go of the game.
Looks like the Hairston brothers will be playing together in San Diego. Too bad the Padres don't have Edgar Gonzalez anymore. Two pairs of brothers on the same team would have been unique. Possibly historic?
When it comes to Pittsburgh, anyone can be gotten. Garrett Jones has always had pop, but not the contact and plate discipline he exhibited last year. He'll definitely regress in 2010, but obviously NYS wouldn't hurt his power numbers.
Granderson has played 4 full seasons. In 2 of those seasons, he's had a better OPS+ than Matsui. He's also been more durable the last 4 seasons. Like I said before, hard to say he's an upgrade or a downgrade offensively. We'll have to see how it plays out.
LaRoche would have been much better off taking the Giants' offer for 2 years $17 mill. Although, statistically speaking Arizona is the better choice.
So much for Joel Zumaya becoming their closer.
