  1. If Beckett wants more years than the Sox are willing to offer, let the baby walk and sign Cliff Lee.
  2. Jacko definitely dug his own grave here.
  3. Mark Bellhorn, of course.
  4. It still doesn't make any sense? :dunno: Mitre is awful. I hope he logs at least 50 innings for you again.
  5. The Yankees shell out the same amount of money towards draft picks and international free agents as the Red Sox. Their scouts are just not as sharp.
  6. Weak justification, if you ask me. Save a nickel, give up more runs. Gaudin wasn't really going to hurt your team. If used enough, Mitre can singlehandedly blow a handful of games. Just because he comes dirt cheap doesn't mean it's a bargain for you. The Yankees don't have money constraints.
  7. This isn't related to the Sox, but it is related to Spring Training. I was looking at the box scores yesterday and noticed Kyle Farnsworth started a game for the Royals. He went 5 innings. Is this what it has come to for the Royals? Kyle Farnsworth as a SP?
  8. Pierre Pierce was universally hated on campus. They gave him so many chances. What a bum. The two players that stand out to me while I was at Iowa are Jeff Horner and Adam Haluska. Horner was good, but he probably jacked too many threes. Haluska was a gutsy player. Definitely made the most of his talent.
  9. Eh, I'd say Pedroia and Lester are untouchable.
  10. A fellow Hawkeye? Steve Alford was never able to get them over the hump when I was there. I think the basketball program has become stagnant.
  11. I find that my interest in hockey is waning as Opening Day draws closer. Could also have something to do with how the Hawks have been playing the last month or so.
  12. Yeah, that's definitely another possibility. The media would then portray him as someone with a bad attitude.
  13. If there is any legitimacy to the rumor, the Sox will soon start a subtle smear campaign against Youk, just like they did with Bay. "Injury risk" would probably be the tactic.
  14. Was Joba largely irrelevant last season or not? Call it a revival or a bounce-back season, but he desperately needs one or the other, especially in New York. Not exactly the most patient FO or fanbase in the world.
  15. Stick a fork in the pipe dream of Joba one day becoming a starter. He was dominant as a reliever. Probably the right move. But we'll never really know. The Yankees didn't do him any favors in terms of his development.
  16. Mitre over Gaudin? Don't know about that.
  17. Vazquez had the most quality starts this decade, IIRC. I think moving forward Buchholz definitely has more upside than Vazquez, but Buchholz is still an unknown quantity. At this point, I would say Vazquez has to be considered the better pitcher. We will see if this holds up after the season.
  18. Yadier would definitely be my first choice, but like you said the Cards know what they have in him. However, given how strapped the A's are and how Billy Beane operates, I think Suzuki could easily be had. Of course, this is all contingent on replacing V-Mart's bat and probably adding another thumper.
  19. Shocker. It was only a matter of time before Mauer re-signed with the Twins. I'd still like to see the Sox part ways with V-Mart, get someone like Kurt Suzuki, and pick up a big bat or two.
  20. Nah, pleasure. Watching my brother play baseball and soaking some rays.
  21. I'm in Tampa right now. Should I see the Yankees play? f*** no is the correct answer.
  22. Silver lining to this (for Red Sox fans) is it pretty much eliminates the White Sox as a serious bidder on Adrian Gonzalez.
