  1. I guess it is fun to throw around all kind of trade ideas like playing a MLB 2K game. In reality - GM's rarely do a blockbuster trade unless there is a definite need that they have to fulfil. That's the missing part between a fantasy and realistic trade. For example - why would anyone get rid of their stud players just because we need a third baseman? They will expect to squeeze as much as possible because they have us by our balls. That's why trade is not a good option if you have a weakness.
  2. I perfectly understand that Lowell is not the same without the green monster. I still think that he will add much more value than Philippe or Dougie. So - there is no weak spot in the Yankee line-up at all( oops I almost forgot Jeter).
  3. You don't think Lowell is an upgrade over Mienkiewitch? Their all-star line-up only gets better.
  4. Is Cincy open to Adam Dunn trade? That's a better option than most other players discussed here.
  5. I beg to disagree. I think third base options really get very thin once you get past A-Rod and Lowell. Trades for someone like Miggy will depleat the farm. We have to rely on unknowns as Carter, Lowrie or Anderson. How is that not a big trouble?
  6. You want to give the kid third base without any major league experience? I thought he was more of a second base/shortstop anyway.
  7. Just happy that it was not Torre - you never know.
  8. Tough choice Alex - break-up with Boras or Jeter? A three-some is not on the table. My feeling is A-Rod is just trying to jack-up the price.
  9. My vote - Lowell if he is signed for 2 years - even 3 years is a bit too much. I don't think that will happen - so I am OK with 8 years of A-Rod. I do not care if they give him 30 million + as long as he is not signed for eternity. If A-Rod does not work out - I do not want to trade for Miggy as the Marlins might ask for a new stadium in return. I don't think Paul Konerko is available - so it is a mute point. Crede/ Beltre/Tajada et all does not interest me. If we can somehow package Coco and a prospect for Salty - then he can play first base. Best option might be home grown - start with Carter at 1st and may be Anderson and Lowrie might progress faster like Jacoby did this year. If we are in contention - try to package a trade by the deadline if things don't work out by then. If Lowell or A-Rod is not playing for us next season - Theo will have to do a lot of innovation that's for sure.
  10. So - looks like Mikey will not be back because he is not ready to give us the hometown discount like Curt. We do need a third baseman - who do you think should play third base? And the chances are Lowell will be in NYY uni next year.
  11. Millar is welcome to come and throw the first pitch or hang out in the clubhouse. The only way I will accept him on this team is a DH immediately followed by a pinch runner if he ever gets on base. And we probably have the best DH in the league already. It will be quite a contrast in defense at first base after watching gold glove Youk - the errors might go from 0 to 50.
  12. Not even close - anti east coast bias!!!
  13. That's a shame considering Becket beat him twice in the post-season. And yeah - I know that ballets have been closed before post-season - still sucks.
  14. Mo update. Don't forget your luxary tax calculator Cashman. I am beginning to wonder what will be the average age of a Yankee player in 3 years time. I thought Cashman is making the team younger.
  15. So what are the chances that Posada will have the same offensive year he had last year in his final contract year? We know that his defense and game calling ability is questionable at best.
  16. Crede and Tejada will not work out IMO. Beltre was one contract year wonder. I hope that Carter works out and he is not WMP part deux. God - I wish Theo did not get rid of Carlos Pena - yeah I know noone saw the year he had coming and blah blah blah.
  17. Not sure it is important - Youk shaving goatee for charity. Isn't that something like Damon did after we won in 2004? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/baseball/mlb/11/12/bc.bba.youkilis.goatee.ap/index.html
  18. From rotoworld:
  19. A-Rod is a jerk the way Bonds is - not the way Milton Bradley is. It never affects his performance on the field.
  20. Market open on Lowell: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2007/11/13/market_open_on_lowell/ The fact that Theo could not get a deal done last night makes me believe that the chances that Lowell will be back is slim as he gets the taste of open market that signs old ballplayers to huge contracts in multiple years (read the Yankees).
  21. Does he care if it is his last big contract before he retires?
  22. Gagne won't be here next season? The Red Sox should start their first game with +5 in standing.
  23. Rotoworld - no big surprise in this news: Asked Wednesday about potentially re-signing Matt Clement, general manager Theo Epstein said that he "probably has better options elsewhere." Clement was a major bust in Boston, posting a 5.19 ERA in 256 1/3 innings after signing a three-year deal, but has reportedly drawn interest from the Padres and Royals now that he's available cheaply as a reclamation project
  24. and the Marlins: The Marlins won't consider blowing up their budget to land Alex Rodriguez, team president Larry Beinfest said. Beinfest stated that the Marlins "do not plan on speaking to A-Rod or engaging in any type of conversations." Source: Miami Herald
