OK - any idea how good Laird is with knuckle-ball?

I think MiraBelli has not been signed yet with us - right? Who will be back-up catcher? Kevin Cash can catch knuckleball - but he opted for free agency. Any ideas?

It will be funny if suddenly the injury bug catches up with him - say like Ken Grieffy Junior. You have to wonder if the revenue from homeruns is enough to motivate him. He already has secured enough money to support next 3 generations of his family. What happens if he now regresses to 2006 form? The Yankees will still have to pay him for 10 more years - right?

Agreed - that's why I was never that high on him coming back though RSN boards are in man love with him. I am just OK with this deal only it's just 3 years and he does not cost an arm and a leg. I will be shocked if he puts up the number like last year. And if we do not pick up Manny's option - we are still missing at least one power hitter in the line-up. If we don't find the bat to replace ManRam - Ortiz will walk every at bat. In the end after A-Rod signed with the Yankees - he was just the second base free-agent available - and the trade routes are just too expensive. We should work on our prospects after this year to back Lowell up.

Gagne is not tradable - he is a free agent. A catcher like Salty will be good. I started liking the Kerry Wood rumor. Say pass on Miggy Cabrera - wait to see what the west coast teams do on him. What else? Oh yeah that lefty picther from the twins. Sit and wait in the sidelines.

Thought I will open a seperate thread on this : Twins offered him a 5 year deal per roto. Personally I think he is going to piss on this offer and send it back.

Yankees tried pretty hard to drive up his price - Theo did not blink. I saw somewhere that the offer is 3 years 33 mill. Thats as reasonable as it gets - I will be happy if we get 2 good offensive years out of this and another defensive late innings replacement year.

I think one of the big decisions we have to make is that do we want to win this year or we want to win multiple championship in future years. If we go the Yankee way( try to buy championships) - we may have to outbid them(tall task) or sacrifice prospects. I would personally rather not do that. I am willing to let our prospects sort out the 1st base position - even though that may cost us the play-offs this year.

I think this thread is the best place to rant. Like any other off-season - this is turning out to be Yanks exclusive hot-stove. For once - I would like my team to be the talk of the rumor world. Every news that comes out has to do with the Yankees. We won the world series damnit. I hate the damn Yankees.

I do not think Lowell is worth 4 years. Anyone thinks it is wise to get into the A-Rod bidding wars with the Yankees. I am sure we have the money - but should that be spent somewhere else more prudently? For once - I would like to get back to the Yankees by out-bidding them. OK - we have done that with Dice-K but even then. This may be the second time we lost out on the best individual player in baseball.

It makes sense on paper - does that mean it can happen? We can try to talk about solving global warming and war in Iraq - etc. And that's what discussion forum is for. Not that anyone would act on them. Just setting expectations. I would love to do some trades you guys are speculating. I doubt any of them will actually happen.
