  1. Not sure about the rule - thought it will not get suspended if we get through 4.5 innings - I may be wrong.
  2. That was not a walk - he struck out twice in that bat.
  3. If Becket can get through this innings without giving up the lead - we do not play this game another day any more.
  4. That line up change to bat Tek before Drew got us 2 runs in that innings.
  5. Little off topic - but related: The Cleveland Indian board has a huge thread that says Boston does not deserve to win because it is a racist town. Have those guys even looked at their mascot? May be they should name their team 'Cleveland Native Americans'. After all Christopher Columbus screwed up when he named the natives 'Guardians' as he thought he landed in India - the land of spice he was looking for.
  6. I guess - got it from boston.com. Could be because of the left handed pitcher and Vtec is much better hitter when he bats right handed?
  7. Well - we do need a backup catcher for the series. And it's not like the other guy Cash is any better than Belli in offence. May be he runs better - but what's the use of that when none of those two can get a hit.
  8. Line up: The lineups are out for Game 1 of the World Series... Red Sox 1. Dustin Pedroia, 2B 2. Kevin Youkilis, 1B 3. David Ortiz, DH 4. Manny Ramirez, LF 5. Mike Lowell, 3B 6. Jason Varitek, C 7. J.D. Drew, RF 8. Julio Lugo, SS 9. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF SP - Josh Beckett Rockies 1. Willy Taveras, CF 2. Kaz Matsui, 2B 3. Matt Holliday, LF 4. Todd Helton, 1B 5. Garrett Atkins, 3B 6. Brad Hawpe, RF 7. Troy Tulowitzki, SS 8. Yorvit Torrealba, C 9. Ryan Spilborghs, DH SP - Jeff Francis
  9. Are we in a circular argument here? Let's talk about it logically if we may. A-Rod gives any team a great chance to go to the post-season. Post-season success is a crap-shot. Guarranting a post season birth is what A-Rod acquisition does - what happens after that is in noone's control. Here is another think to ponder. A-Rod has bad post-season number in New York. He did OK in Seattle. What is to say he will not do OK in Boston? You may personally hate his guts and do not want to see him in your team's uniform. Does that make it a valid argument why we should not try to get him? What do you think?
  10. I think we may be able to keep both A-Rod and Lowell if we can somehow package Manny to the Mets. Question is what do we do with Mr Lugo.
  11. If it is doable financially - I will accept A-Rod in a hearbeat. It's not we have all classy and humble players here anyway in the roaster - whatever works to get to a championship. It is easy to point out his failures - but without him Yankees miss the play-offs by at least 5 games. To be successful in the play-offs ( which is more of a crap-shot) - you will have to get there - which is quite an achievement. That said - Borass will probably ask for too much that we may be better off spending elsewhere. Any player is just a pitch away from career ending injury. Chance that A-Rod is a red sox next year is about 30% now in my opinion. Also - check this out. http://fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/25131
  12. More on Kilo's line of thought - this good SI article breaking down player by player in both offence and defense categories: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/john_donovan/10/23/worldseries.breakdown/index.html
  13. I have a question - Bucholz has had 3 weeks to rest . Can we replace Wake with him and Gagne with Tavarez/Snider? Lester can still be available for long relief? Is this worth a risk for a world series ring?
  14. Another positive - hopefully Belli does not leave dug-out during the entire series.
  15. I doubt if it is a big loss. Is Julian gonna replace him? The better part of the link is Tito will start Jacoby instead of Coco - phewwww.
  16. Because of all the Joe turmoil - these two will make boatload of money.
  17. More than Curt - Wake scares me in the Coors field. One of the odd suggestions in boston.com chat was if we have to go with Wake/Belli - how about pitching him in game 2? He did pretty well in the interleague against the Rockies at Fenway. Also - what do we do with Gagne? I would love to leave him out of the roaster for Tavarez. Tavarez can do long reliefs if Curt/Dice/Wake struggles - I do not see any positives keeping the fatman in the bullpen.
  18. From Boston.com chat: Not that I agree - unfortunately Papi was not exactly tearing it up in the ALCS. I like Papi as pinch hitter unless we are down going in Denver. GoldenGeek__Guest_ Youkilis has two carrer games playing 2B; any chance they shift Youk to 2B, Pedroia to SS, and sit Lugo to make room for Ortiz in the NL home games? Nick_Cafardo No ... they would never do anything that drastic and change a guy who has been playing 2B all year to SS for a World Series. The issue will be Lowell and Youkilis. Ortiz will play 1B and either Lowell or Youkilis will play third base. The other will sit out.
  19. I do not like D-Mat if he was a $103 million man - but I am not going to add the $52 million posting fee. If we subtract the posting fee - I am happy what we got out of a rookie pitcher that is adjusting to a completely different league with lot of cultural shocks. Let's give him the adjustment period and see what he can bring to us next year. Lugo on the other hand has not redeemed himself yet - And I don't even want to talk about Gagne. What a waste of our good prospects.
  20. Good analysis. I have a question - has Lowell ever played short in his career? He certainly has the range and the arm-strength for it. If he can do it - we move Youk to 3rd, Papi to 1st and Lugo to take the position near Coco.
  21. Tough call - the way Youk played last series. If only Youk could play short and we could sit Lugo.
  22. If we could get Lowell take a hometown discount which he might ( considering the green monster is a big reason for his success) - we may still land A-Rod. And then we can throw Lugo in the Charles river. Well - after a night like last night - I am allowed to daydream today - right?
  23. Well - if it's time for appology here I will just say this: I am sorry Kevin Youk - I absolutely thought you ran out of gas in the second half and I am so happy you proved me wrong. I never counted Drew out - I thought he will come through in the post-season ( like he did for the Braves). I hope he justifies every penny the contract Theo gave him. I never thought highly of Lugo, Gagne and Coco in this forum - and I will be happy if I have to write an appology note to them after the world series. Finally - I am sorry Theo and Tito that I blasted you so much here. Well - Tito still makes my heart stop with some of his decisions ( like keeping Oki for his third innings) - but for now all is forgotten.
  24. No champagne for you. Come back - one year.
