I never said that Rangers will give up on Salty though. This is a Tek discussion - so hypothetically if somehow we get Salty or someone else equally good dropped on us by Santa Clause - would you guys still want to extend Tek?
Not the kind of off-season upgrade I was looking forward to. I am not sure what the financials are - but I do not want this to happen. I have had let's say different opinions about this with other forum members who think Tek is next to God and they have voiced their opinions loudly. So I will not be surprised if I am bashed again - but apart from the intangibles ( leadership, young pitcher development and all that crap) - it will be nice if someone can post some numbers on why should we do it.

I thought Santana said he will go only to the Yankees or Red Sox.
Because Hank gave that stupid deadline and took himself out of the negotiation. Why would he do that if he is just jacking up the price? He knew Twins will settle for the Lester package.
Could not agree more.
I will believe it when I see it done. Like last summer - Dye trade with Chicago was 'done' so many times before lunch on deadline day. Somehow we landed with Mr. Fatso at the end of the day.
If you say so. Hughes just had one good second half. We all know how Wang can fall apart. Joba has never been a starter in the major. I am sure Mussina will win 20 games for you. The only player I think is close to a # 1 is Petitte - and he is getting old too.
But - if you guys are happy with that - I am happy for you. Might turn out better than Carla and Igawa in your rotation on opening day.
IN OTHER NEWS - THIS THREAD IS NOW TIED FOR THE 4TH PLACE (IN TERMS OF NUMBER OF REPLIES) IN THE ALL TIME LIST FOR THIS FORUM. THIS WILL BE A TIEBREAKING POST.
In case you are not tired of Santana updates - The Twins are not happy with Hank's statement and considering tampering charges.
Do you guys remember any other hot stove drama like this one? Dice-K, Randy Johnson, Becket was not even close IMO.
The reason why Santana can be had for less than the other 2 in terms of prospects( not cash) is everyone knows he is gone after this year and also he told the twins that he will not do a mid-season trade and will waive NTC now only if he is traded to the Yankees or the Red Sox. Also as far as Haren is concerned - Billy Beane has shown before he can get the best returns for his star pitchers.
Well - he striked out too much last year - and that's park independent. That said - I would love to sign Jones and put him between Manny and Lowell if Ellsbury is traded. My hunch is he is not as bad as a player as his stats indicated last year. And this may be a good opportunity to buy low as he and his agent had bad reps recently.
